Philosophical Study On The Media Technology

Contemporary media studies are mainly in the Communication, Sociology, and Philosophy of Technology. It's including figure and paradigm review, specific issues research, lacking comprehensive philosophical reflection. Because the Philosophy of Technology is turning to study of specific technologies and new media are showing the huge impact. So we need to sort out the existing media theories, and then reflect all aspects of media technology by philosophy, to form a systematic philosophical study of media technology. This dissertation follows the mainline as follows. First of all, it's starting from the study of logical relationship in media technology itself and the historical development which is demonstrating the connotation, extension and evolution. Secondly, expand the problem domains of media technology Philosophical Study, and solve the core issues in each problem domain. This dissertation contains five parts:first one, the study on extension and connotation of media technology. Second one, the conditions, power and mechanisms of media technology evolution. Third one, the relationship between media technology and epistemology. Fourth one, the relationship between media technology and practice. Fifth one, the classification, generation and direction of media technology value.Chapter one is the starting point of media technology philosophy. By distinguishing the similar concepts, defining the extension of media technology, this chapter point out that media technology is a subset of the media not including symbol and body information technology. Communication technology contains directionality. From a content point of view, media technology is a kind of communication technology who can create imaginative world. Information technology artifact has the same extension of media technology. In using, media technology features focusing are different from communication technology and information technology. By distinguishing the production technology, this chapter point out that the connotation of media technology is doublecognitive and doubleconnective devices. Chapter two points out that the conditions of media technology evolution including anthropotropic and comprehensive doctrines, the conditions of human evolution including technical characteristics, material and technical support. The evolution power comes from external contradictions which are between media technology and human, information, system. It also comes from internal contradictions between different media technologies. The evolution mechanism is Self-regulation loop. Chapter three cardings the three stages of human's media technology epistemology, ports out the shaping role which from media technology to cognitive elements and process, studies the cognition variety under the impaction of Internet and big data. Chapter four studies the elements and constraints of media technology practice in static angle, studies the process of media technology practice in dynamic angle, discourses the virtual steering of media technology practice in digital age. Chapter five ports out the classification and generate features of media technology value. The positive value depending on satisfying degree, conform degree and achievable degree. The negative value can be digested by technological, legislative and ethical mode.The starting point of philosophy of technology is the distinction between technology and science, which establishing the first ontology study in philosophy of technology. Then it gradually formed a system framework, which including ontology, evolution, epistemology, practice and value. Currently, the philosophy of technology is turning to empirical studies. In this trend, the philosophy study lon media technology should be started from ontology, and then expanded a few problem areas. It's not only the extending of philosophy of technology, but also the starting point of media technology philosophy.
