From2008, social media has come into the sight of human. It developed so fast in the audience that it has been attracting increasing attention from both industry and academia. To2001, it has become the year of "social". All the websit, no matter its big or small, attach the "social" labels on themselves. Social media has both social character and meida character, therefore, it plays important roles in the areas of politics, economy and livehood. However, the development of social media seemed not so bright. Someome thinks twice about the bad influences of social media in the meantime. In the beginning of the same year, the turmoil in the Middle East, the London riots and the salt-buying panic in mid-March caused by micro-blog have happened one by one. These things make people realize that there are lots of negative functions as the social media promote the development of human society.In the recent two years, social media have generated negative functions both to the audience and the society because of its powerful influence of public opinion. The negative influences to the audience are three ways:people are caught into the dependence of media, people decreased the ability of the information cognitive and the expand of the group of network sheep without a shepherd. While also three ways to the society:the function of gate-keeper has been weakened, threatens to the nation’s safety has been magnified and the West countries has been used of the social media as the main battle to "inciting public opinion"Taking the history of media technology evolution as the main thread, this paper will describe the development of the media and technology from the information carrier in the ancient to the construction of Information Highway in nowadays. In these progresses, the author will summarize the development rules of media technology and discuss the negative influences caused by the new emerged social media. There are some characters of the media technology itself, such the tendency of humanity, the remedial of media itself, the balances of time and space and the "unexpected evolution".What’s more, there are both inner power of media technology itself and the external power pushed the technology to go on and on, including the needs of mankind and the progresses of the society.With the development and progress of human civilization, the technology of media developed as well. The various media forms in different historical periods expand space for information communication. The emergence of a new medium, pioneered by technology, will invariably subverted effects on human society. In the past, people focus on communication content than on its way, which brings short-period effort. Actually, research on the evolution of media technology is the long-term method of grasping media’s social effect from all-round perspectives.In this thesis, the author will put the social media into the history of media technology according to the development rules of it to progress the social media, and will provide some reasonable advice to develop social media in a healthy and ordered way in our country.
