Uyghur in Atush city located on the ancient Silk Road have a long tradition of business,they have a good reputation of “Xinjiang Jews”.The local story of doing business on the moon has inherited from generation to generation.Business has become the most important livelihood of many people in Atush.In the vast commercial community of Atush,the transnational trading group occupy half of the community.The transnational cloth trading group is the one of the longest and most influential transnational business groups in past 30 years.The village of big Shoruq in Songtak town of Atush city is a place in which the businessmen engaged in transnational cloth trading are most concentrated and influential.The transnational fabric businessmen group in the village of big Shoruq have emerged and rapidly risen since 1990 s.The business of the merchants has gone through the four stages: emergence,development,glory and shrinking.In recent years,with the change of internal and external environments and the influence of the merchants' own strength,the traders are facing so increasing difficulties in their cloth trading that the half of businessmen terminated their cloth business abroad and returned home in the past five years.The merchants remained in the foreign markets are facing these difficulties,such as the narrowing of profit space,weaking of cloth market,fierce competition,lack of liquidity,instability of sources,the frequent change of security and trading environment,yearly increasing household spending and difficulty in career change etc.The factors causing to the predicament are not only relevant to the businessmen themselves,but also the commercial environment the merchants stand in and the systems of the related states in which they operate.The predicament should lead to the difficulty in daily life of many families,as well as the more pressure on administration of local government and society.Predicament of business will be taken as the point of entry,process of business as the dimension of study in this paper.It is to discuss the history and current situation of transnational cloth trading by using of combination of an empirical analysis and a humanistic research in the fieldwork and participant observation,from the perspective of cultural anthropology,economic anthropology,ecological economics,history and other disciplines.Especially the predicament will be researched as emphatically in this paper.The suggestions which be beneficial to settlement of the predicament will be put forward in the end of the paper.In this paper,the research on the dilemma of the Uyghur' transnational fabric business in the village is designed to provide some reference to the study of transnational business in border area and then provide some thinking and inspiration for discussion on borderland administration of China and peaceful transborder habitation of transnational nationalities.This paper argues that the transnational trading of transnational ethnicities is the postive force to promote the accessibility and stability of the borderland.As a kind of living of the people lived in the borderland,the sustainable development of transnational trading is the important thrust of the survival and development of the people.As a kind of practice of transnationalism in economy,the predicament that the cloth merchants of xinjiang uyghurs are facing should be concerned and focused by all circles,in order to promote the sustainable development of transnational nationalities and implementation of the strategy “One belt,One road”.Therefore,all parties should work together on improving the present status of cloth businessmen as to promote the prosperous and contented life of the ethnic groups lived in borderland,and the accessibility,development and prosperity of borderland.
