University students are the future of our nation and people, shouldering the great responsibility of realizing the Chinese Dream.Their healthy growth is highly dependent on ideology and morality,an important part of which is social responsibility. The development of social responsibility, which is a difficult task,is closely related to students’ healthy growth and all-round development, and is significant to building harmonious family relationship, fostering socialist core values and realizing the goal of social development and construction.A study should firstly be problem-oriented,concerning practical problems and theoretical confusion, secondly be based on correct and scientific guiding principles and theories, and thirdly be exploring theoretical and practical solutions to the problems.Following this logic, this study explores the theme of fostering university students’ sense of social responsibility from the perspective of Marxist theory. The author comprehensively analyzes the present situation, weakness and the causes, and puts forward theoretical framework and effective strategies to foster social responsibility.Under the circumstances of constantly changing social environment, social governance system, ideological and political education system and characteristics of contemporary college students, although the main stream of the university students have strong sense of social responsibility,a small part of them show weak social responsibility, losing aims, empty in spirit, lacking sense of gratitude, and indifferent to others and the society. The good results achieved in the work of fostering university students’ social responsibility is accompanied with problems such as more theoretical teaching but less moral nurturance, lack of family and social environment helpful for the development of social responsibility. These problems influenced the growth of university students and social development to some extent. The Party and the government have fully realized its importance and issued a variety of important documents such as “Central Committee of Communist Party of China and State Council on Further Strengthening and Improving University Students’ Ideological and Political Education”,and “National Program for Medium-and Long-term Educational Reform and Development” which mentioned university students’ awareness of the country’s fate and improvement of their sense of social responsibility. The study should be based on Marxist human theory, especially Marxist theory of liberty,Marxist theory on human nature, practical epistemology and men’s all-round development theory, inheriting the traditional culture of ancient China and taking foreign studies on social responsibility as reference.By systematically reviewing and clarifying related theories, the author forms the theoretical basis for innovation and development of university students’ social responsibility.Achievements and existing problems are summarized on the basis of the present situation and investigation into the causes for the problems. The underlying causes for the weakness are analyzed from four aspects: the society, the school, the family and the individual, laying a solid foundation for a pertinent and effective model for fostering university students’ social responsibility. On the basis of Marxist human theory and effective analysis of problems and causes,a theoretical model for fostering college students’ social responsibility is established including ideals, goals, principles, contents and approaches.Based on the practical reality of higher education and the society, the author explicitly proposes the combination of university education, family education, social environment and self education so as to scientifically and effectively foster social responsibility and innovate its mechanism.
