The Efficacy Of Kudzu And Cinnamon Granules In Treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Objective:To explore the efficacy of kudzu and cinnamon granules in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Method:1.In animal experiment,Sixty male mice from Kunming were all four weeks of age,who were randomly divided into 6 groups,including three groups of different doses of kudzu particles joint cinnamon particles,control group,model group,blank group.Except blank group,mice of other groups were given 5mg/kg/d testosterone propionate by subcutaneous injection at 7 days after surgical castration.Different dose of kudzu root particles joint cinnamon,finasteride,normal saline gavage.In three weeks,mice were broken neck to death,got prostates and weighed,calculated prostate index(PI),observed morphological changes after HE staining,detected the expression of FGF2,Ki67,TGF-?1 by immunohisochemical and 5a-reductase activity by ELISA,tested the apoptosis index by TUNEL kit.2.In clinical reserch,80 cases with BPH of renal deficiency and blood stasis were selected from the urinary surgery of our hospital from May 2015 to May 2016.A randomized method was employed to divide these patients into two groups:treatment group(kudzu and cinnamon granules)and control group(finasteride),40 cases for each group.International prostate symptom score(I-PSS),effects of urination symptoms on quality of life(QoL),TCM syndrome score,maximum flow rate(Qmax),average urinary flow rate,total urine volume,post-void residual volume(PVR),prostate volume and serum PSA six months after treatment were recorded and compared between these two groups.Result:1.In animal experiment,Compared with model group,other groups had a signify-cantly reduce of prostatic volume,prostatic index,FGF2,Ki67,TGF-?1,5 a-reductase(P<0.05),while had a higher apoptosis index(P<0.05).There had no statistical differences between kudzu(middle and high doses)joint cinnamon particles and finasteride group(P>0.05).2.In clinical reserch,I-PSS effects of urination symptoms on QoL,TCM syndrome score,maximum flow rate(Qmax),average urinary flow rate,total urine volume,post-void residual volume(PVR)and prostate volume were obviously improved in both groups after taking drug(P<0.05).The serum prostate-specific antigen(PSA)levels of both groups were decreased,showing no statistical significance(P>0.05).The symptom score of the treatment group after taking drug was much lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:1.The combination therapy of kudzu and cinnamon particles may shrink prostatic volume of mice by reduce the activity of 5a-reductase,inhibition the expression of FGF2,Ki67,TGF-?1,promote cell apoptosis,thus dwindle prostatic volume of mice.2.The clinical research shows that,kudzu and cinnamon granules can significantly improve maximum flow rate(Qmax),average urinary flow rate,total urine volume,reduce the post-void residual volume(PVR)and prostate volume and improve I-PSS effects of urination symptoms on QoL,TCM syndrome score.The combination therapy of kudzu and cinnamon particles can significantly improve patients' quality of life and should be promoted in clinic.
