A Study Of Journalism Justice

The issue of justice always goes with journalistic practice, and it has become highlight with the development of economy, society and the media:the media and journalists are always faced with unadjustable conflicts such as conflicts between public faith and personal interest, freedom and responsibility, truth and privacy. Unjust conducts such as faked news, news for compensation, unhealthy advertising have never been banned despite repeated prohibition. The justice issue of journalistic practice should be responded with theoretical research, which involves not only journalism but also ethics.Journalism justice, as an independent concept, is closely related to journalism, journalistic value, justice and social justice. The journalism studied by journalism justice is the activity based on the dissemination of information which is of great consequence. Journalism justice, as the value of journalism, on the one hand, is a significant element of journalistic information, and on the other hand, a criteria to the judgment of social function or impact of journalism. Justice studied by journalism justice mainly is social justice, which symbolizes the beauty and harmony of order, virtue of social institution and the concerned public interests of the society. Journalism justice, as social justice,demands journalism to pursue social justice, calls for,reflects and advances social justice in journalistic practice.Ethical theories throughout ages provide the theoretical foundattion for the research of journalism justice.Confucianistic ethic thoughts, Chtistian ethic thoughts, Aristotle’s virtue ethic thoughts, Kant’s responsibility ethic thoughts, freedom first ethic thoughts, utilitarianism,,and communitarian ethic thoughts all embrace abundant justice thoughts. The analysis of journalism justice from three ethical perspectives such as theory of welfare, Skopos theory and virtue theory can lead to the advantages and difficulties of journalism justice guided by different ethic theories. Communication studies provide valuable resources for the research of journalism justice. It presents different media patterns in different social politics, economic structures. Different content can be found in different media patterns when journalistic justice is studied in four theories such as authoritarianism, freedom first ethic thoughts, social responsibility ethic thoughts and Soviet communism.The course of the pursuit of journalism justice is confronted with different relationships, which are also the different dimensions to study journalism justice. Journalistic freedom and responsibility are inseparable. Journalism justice needs the unity of journalistic freedom and responsibility. Social responsibility is the prerequisite of journalistic freedom. Fulfilling responsibility is to guarantee freedom. Publicity and self interest are at a stalemate. Journalism justice needs to fortify publicity while hold self interest in check, in which controlling self interest should come as a priority. Pursuit of truth and protection of privacy are interacting with each other. Journalism justice needs neither violation of privacy nor impeding of pursuit of truth. To set a borderline for the protection of privacy is to seek balance in the interaction.Journalism justice shoulders up dual responsibilities for journalism and social justice.In order to meet the basic requirement, journalism has to be essentially good. To the realization of concerned public interests of society through journalism is the ultimate purpose which is the realization of social justice. The realization of journalism justice is a process of unity of formality justice, essential justice, justice of purpose and means. Modernism and post-modernism are two contexts to influence people’s understanding of journalism justice, and to influence the judgment of service of journalism for social justice. Journalism justice can be realized in two ways:autonomy or heteronomy. Journalistic autonomy includes the autonomy of journalists, news media and news industry.Journalistic heteronomy includes the heteronomy of morality, institution and law. Journalism justice may never be realized, but the realization of it is still promising. That’s the reason for our untiring pursuit and perseverance.
