Abstraction of Military system of systems (SoS) engagement process, developmentof SoS effectiveness analysis simulation system, establishment of SoS effectivenesssimulation evaluation application process, and SoS engagement simulation experimentwith Agent Based Modeling and Simulation (ABMS) has become an importantdirection for future military SoS effectiveness evaluation. The Military SoSeffectiveness evaluation technique reference framework, SoS model framework andsimulation framework in the dissertation are root in ABMS based SoS effectivenesssimulation development and application process and the requirements of Military SoSeffectiveness evaluation. They are great value for SoS effectiveness evaluationapplication. The contents of the dissertation are as follows:(1) The effectiveness evaluation methodology based ABMS is proposed.The characteristics and requirement of simulation evaluation for informationsystem based military SoS are analyzed. ABMS development and assessment processfor the military SoS effectiveness simulation are discussed. The technical referenceframework for SoS effectiveness evaluation is also proposed. It consists of followingcomponents: SoS effectiveness evaluation preparation, scenario editor for jointoperation, ABMS SoS simulation engine, operation process presentation and outputcollection, SoS effectiveness integrated evaluation. The rationality and practicality offramework is verified through development for related simulation system.(2) Compsable agent SoS model framework is developed.The ABMS paradigm provides great advantage for military operational research,especial for NCW operational research. According to requirements for SoSeffectiveness evaluation for operational research in information age, the reusable SoSmodel framework should be developed through common operation concept framework.Many SoS effectiveness evaluation analysis can be supported by repaid composition ofoperational agent model for different SOS effectiveness evaluation requirements. Basedon ABMS model development process, a composable SoS simulation model frameworkis proposed by abstraction of physical, information, cognitive and organization domainsin common operational concept framework. Researchers for SoS effectivenessevaluation can define and compose different operational agent model componentsrapidly, carry out experiments for different SoS contexts.(3) A thread-based process interaction simulation framework is designed andimplemented.Process interaction simulation is a typical discrete event simulation paradigm. Itcan implemented by CEL(Current Event List) and FEL(Future Event List) or processroutine. A thread-based process interaction simulation approach and the process state transition are analyzed. A thread-based process interaction simulation framework isdesigned and implemented. The framework consists of Process, Resource, Simulatorand Data Collection classes. Suspending, resuming operation of process routine can besupported effectively by the method of thread pool. This framework is illustrated by adiscrete event simulation example.(4) The SOS simulation model framework is proposed.The decision behavior representation is a challenge for military SOS simulation.Process interaction simulation paradigm can support activity sequences representationeffectively for different entities and many complicated event routines and activityroutines can be avoided. Complex agent behavior represented by process interactionsimulation paradigm is more effective, natural, and simpler. The agent based simulationalgorithm from process interaction simulation paradigm is discussed, the SOSsimulation model framework and execution phases based on process simulationparadigm for military SoS analysis are proposed, and the action primitives andcomposable decision behavior process for battle entities are also analyzed.(5) An SoS effectiveness analysis simulation system prototype based on ABMS isdesigned and implemented.According to the theory, methodology and techniques in the dissertation, the SoSeffectiveness analysis simulation system based ABMS is designed and implemented bythe author and his research team. There are some successful applications in air force andmissile domains. The usability correctness of model framework, simulation and modelalgorithms are proved.(6) SoS effectiveness for CEC is analyzed by ABMSThe ABMS paradigm provides great advantage for military operational research,especial for NCW operational research. The contribution to SoS effectiveness for CECis analyzed by ABMS. The CEC agent model framework and interaction relationshipare presented. They are built based on SoS effectiveness analysis simulation platform.The experiment design for PCW、NCW and CEC is analyzed. The factors include shipnumber and combat strength. The experiment results are analyzed and the difference inexperiment between ABMS and traditional method is illustrated. The experiment showsthe SoS behavior control in CEC is most important for SoS effectiveness.
