Lung Phlegm

Objective: Clear the connotation of "lung phlegm", and discuss the specialpathogenic significance about the lung sputum in clinic especially in respiratory systemdiseases. In view of the clinical research data, we has verified the theory of the lungsputum, which can provide the scientific theory basis to the clinical treatment, and at thesame time, we could develop the theory of lung phlegm in traditional Chinese medicine.Methods: The method combined with the literature research, modern research andclinical research method. In the literature research, we refer to the documents to expoundthe lung phlegm theory; in the modern research, we expound the connection of the lungsputum and modern research from different perspectives; in the clinical research, weobserve the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine in the acute aggravating period ofchronic obstructive pulmonary disease（COPD）.Results: First, elaborate the theory of lung sputum. Second, discuss the relationshipbetween the lung sputum and modern research in detail. Third, the clinical researchconfirmed that Chinese medical phlegm had definite effect for acute COPD.Conclusion: First, the lung phlegm is the objective existence, and the lung sputumtheories are established. The Lung sputum is divided into the tangible and intangiblesputum, and the lung sputum have distinctive characteristics of the disease. Second, thepathologic of lung sputum is complex and related closely to the chronic inflammation, cellbiology, immune abnormalities, blood rheology and blood biochemical changes,microcirculation, free radicals, sticky protein, and lipid metabolism disorder. Third, theclinical study found that the phlegm proprietary Chinese medicine has the effects ofantibacterial, antiviral, relieving a cough, eliminating the phlegm, relieving asthma, allergy,improving pulmonary hypertension, enhancing immunity and antioxidant, and it has goodcurative effect for COPD patients with acute aggravating period.
