The Study On Metatheory Of Hermeneutics Of Science

Hermeneutics, firstly appeared as a special methodology of moral science, is originated from the explanation to sacred texts. After20th century, with the collision and communication between English&American analytical philosophy and speculative philosophy in Euro Continent, the current philosophers of science gradually realize that the essence of science and its developmental tendency embodies the factor of hermeneutics, thus a growing number of people began to explore modern science from the aspects of hermeneutics. The contamination between natural science and moral science methodology promotes the expansion of scientific methodology, which brings about hermeneutics of science.The hermeneutics of science was established on the basis of the criticism of modern natural science. It not only solves the problem of the expansion from natural scientific methodology to the field of moral science, but it also liberates people from the old view of science. Modern natural scientific outlook takes nature as a set and static whole, while in fact; the study of natural science should not be separated from the main body of human beings. The intervention of different subjects of knowledge and the different understandings and drawbacks towards different objects help people form a relative mastery of cognitive objects. The traditional natural scientific methodology can’t meet the requirement of putting a clear and judicial statement on the overall scientific facts. There is no such absolute independent scientific research methodology. Science bears the characteristic of hermeneutics and the whole research process takes in the factor of hermeneutics.The final purpose of scientific research is to apply theory into practice. The application process of the whole science, which consists of scientific discovery, scientific theory, scientific experiment, is a view evolved from nature, society, economy, politics, history, culture, humanity, language, psychology, etc. The influence of different heterogeneities on scientific research and human activity requires the application process surpass the epistemological model of single-dimensional determinism or social determinism. What’s more, the effect can’t be simply explained by using natural scientific or moral scientific methodology for we have to take a dialectical view towards the coupling and active relationship existing in the process.Science, as an open self-organized system, is restricted by both the inner and exterior factors from the system. It is the result of the combined action of those two different kinds of factors especially in the situation that numerous complex disciplines and inter-disciplines appear, which not only requires the theoretical blending and coordination of all disciplines, different academic groups and scientific communities, but it also needs the interactive use of inter-disciplines’methodology.This dissertation takes the etymon of hermeneutics as the starting point. It follows the historical developing sequence of hermeneutics to examine the historical resource of hermeneutics of science, pointing out clearly the conception we should clarify and the chief problem we have to solve when we carry out the research on hermeneutics of science through eliminating the ambiguity appeared in the translation process of the word hermeneutics itself; secondly, the dissertation discusses the fusion process of philosophy of science and Continental Philosophy and the formation of hermeneutics of science, besides, it puts forward the overall theoretical framework of hermeneutics of science based on its background and meaning;thirdly, it expounds the research field around hermeneutics of science basing on the analysis of the related documentation about hermeneutics and hermeneutics of science both at home and abroad, besides, it makes clear the methodology characteristics of hermeneutics of science from the triad of understanding, explanation and application and the circulation of hermeneutics; what’s more, considering the diversity developmental direction of current science, it straightens the correspondence among hermeneutics of science, phenomenology, constructivism and cognitive science through the theoretical relations between hermeneutics of science and other philosophies; fourthly, it explains the useful meaning on the basis of praxis and the application. In addition, it illuminates the characteristics and developmental tendency of hermeneutics of science basing on the multiple understanding characteristics of current scientific cognition and the developing trend of interdisciplinary.The dissertation adopts the methodology of analogical qualitative analysis; it strengthens people’s wholly understanding and macro mastery of science through the formation of the whole theory of hermeneutics of science, which can help people easily understand and master the complex scientific conception, theory and analytical methods from the dimension of hermeneutics.
