It is considered that, as a powerful supplement for the original moviesand television culture market, the current rapid development of movies and television cultureencourages the adaptation from the new generation novels. The main reason for choosing thenew generation novels to adapt was that the character elements represented in them satisfythe emotional needs of the current audience, which including the attention in the family andmarriage, the reminiscence in the red or special years and some projecting issues in thecurrent society. However, the rise of the public consumption culture resulted in the currentmovies and TV-play characterized by secularization, entertainment and consumption, whichin indirectly affected the adaptation ideas from the novels. In addition, a restriction from themainstream ideology was also produced for the adaptation from the new generation novels, making the adaptation works present a complete harmonious relationship and beauty inhuman nature. However, the common, satisfactory final scene and the complanate characters in the movies and TV-play also weakened the expressive force of the profound theme andcomplicated characters in the original novels.Chapter two,‘theme transition’ of the movies and television adaptation from thenew generation novel. During the adaptation from the new generation novel, the themes insome of the novels were ‘faithfulness’ transmitted to the movies and television, and withexhibiting varieties, close, flexible and open. Moreover, the popular transition of the themeafter the adaptation also occurred, which representing by simplified the profound theme, thecomplanation of the reflective theme and weakened the critical theme. The characters of thetheme after adaptation were mainly represented in five aspects, family, love, hurt, fear or spywar.Chapter three, image-building of the movies and television adaptation from thenew generation novel. This chapter mainly discussed the changes in the characters afteradaptation. The transformations of the characters from the novel to a "real" image in themovies and television were based on the reality position of the characters by themselves, thereality condition of the characters by their action and the playing by the actors. The‘variation’ for the minor characters after adaptation represented functionality, by changing thetheme of the novel, a setoff of the main characters in the movies and television and enhancingtheir complicated plots. In addition, for obtaining similar results mentioned above, anincrease or decrease in the characters during the adaptation also occurred. Chapter four, narrate of the movies and television adaptation from the newgeneration novel. In the narrative perspective after adaptation, the correspondingconversions in the first person narration perspective, the third person narrative perspectiveand the first and third person mixed narrative perspective were mainly investigated. In thenarrative time sequence after adaptation, the changes in sequence, reverse order and primaryorder used in the original novels and the adapted movies and television were also studied. Inthe narrative rhetoric after adaptation, the changes in irony, symbol and metaphor between thenovels and movies and television were studied, mainly from the adaptation of the characterirony, the object symbol and the scene metaphor interpretation. In the narrative rhythm afteradaptation, the conversions were mainly focus on the scene, the combination of events andcharacters emotions.Chapter five, value of the movies and television adaptation from the new generationnovel. The adaptation from the new generation novel has opened up a new path forcommunication of the novels, and the new role of screenwriter or artist as “writer director”also impose a significantly effect in exploiting their development. In addition, the adaptationfrom the new generation novel has injected vitality for the current movie and televisionmarket, which represents some abundant and unique fodders provided by the novels andsome art meaning guarantee for the movies and television obtained as the literature characterof the novel. Moreover, a beneficial attempt for the creative adaptation is also made by theadaptation from the new generation novel. As the creative adaptation from the new generation novel exhibited in three styles, popular, commercial and artistical, so as to provide the artexperience for reference.Epilogue The deficiency in the movies and television adaptation from the newgeneration novel is discussed in this chapter and three questions about the current adaptationare aroused to the director. The deficiencies in the adaptation from the new generation novelmainly exhibited by disregarded in the theme common transition of the novel, weakened thecharacters and highlighted the violence and sex business elements. These deficiencies haveseriously restricted the art ascension in the adaptation realm. The three questions aimed at thedirector are whether the adaptation in need of ‘material consciousness’,‘regulate’ and‘audience consciousness’. The director of the adaptation from the novel requires a ‘materialconsciousness’, which is the guidance for the choice of the novel in deed on the basis ofbeing touched deeply, then turning into strong ‘problem consciousness’ and inspiring theimpulse for shooting out. The ‘regulate’ is also need for the director after shooting the movie, which not only have to guarantee the movie and television art external view, but also toensure that the art of movie and TV-play with deep feelings. The director is also need to havethe "audience consciousness", not to request the director catering to the audience tastes andappreciation level, but leading the audience with a positive attitude to create the positive artexperience. On the basis of the comprehensive definition of the new generation novels, a systemicinvestigation focus on the movies and television adaptation from the new generation novel is firstly carried out, so as to make up for the lack of attention to them. Moreover, according tothe intertextualite theory formed in the postmodernism trend, the text comparison andtheoretical analysis between the novels and the adapted movies and TV-play are discussed insome aspects, such as the subject content, image-building and narrative elements, etc.,accordingly, to grip the unique feature of the adaptation from the new generation of novelsand further to find its characteristics and value. Meanwhile, this thesis also attempts tosummarize the experience, success and failure of the adaptation, which will be expected toprovide a valuable reference for the adaptation, and also to open up the new aspect of studieson the new generation novels.
