Research and discussion on the film adaptation of novel become a cross-disciplinary new research in recent years; it is also a hot issue in the study of modern and contemporary Chinese literature. Yan Geling is a prolific female writer; also her works selling briskly, her novels have been adapted for films and TV plays frequently and quickly hit the country after their broadcast. As a typical figure of combination of contemporary literature and film, it could allow us to look into the internal factors and path of the film adaptation by setting Yan Geling as model to analyze the "Newly created stories", furthermore, to explore achievements and limits of the film adaptation. As a matter of face, the films as to newly created novels, should not just change its producing method, but should be a complex artistic re-creation process.In this paper, the introduction describes the relationship between the films and the novels, simply combing the history of the film adaptation in Chinese mainland. It indicated that with continuous development of the mass media, the film adaptation of the novel has formed a strong power and the film adaptation has become the only way to has works sold well. The introduction posed a brief analysis of the research situation of film adaptation of Yan Geling’s novels.The first chapter of this paper discusses the path of film adaptation of Yan Geling’s novels, explores how finished its film adaptation re-creation from four aspects:shift of narrative focuses, replacement and additional details of the story, reconstruction of the female image and transformation of narrative space. This paper believes it is not just a change in forms of media, it is necessary to use a specific path to complete the conversion from text abstract art to visual intuitionist art. The film adaptation of Yan Geling’s novles is demonstration; it offers a useful reference for film adaptation of contemporary literature.The second chapter of this paper discusses the film factors of Yan Geling’s novel. This paper believes that the reason that Yan Geling’s novels have been adapted into films and television dramas and had got most successful, in addition to the ability of director and actors, also are inseparable with the video elements inside of her novels. In other words, It is because of the inherent characteristics of Yan Geling’s novel that contributed to the formation of the "the Old Tales Retold", and reached a good effect. The paper from four aspects of the easy adaptation of the narrative structure, the audio-visual dialogue, color and image, close-up and montage art, discusses that Yan Geling and the directors, using their own creation to consciously absorb the positive elements of novel narrative and film narrative, contribute to the two benign interactive symbiotic relationships.The third chapter, based on the previous two chapters, discusses the achievement and limitation of the adaptation of Yan Geling’s novels. Thesis believes that the adaptation of film and television expanded the living space for Yan Geling’s novels and author. The novel has been developed a communication channel with the help of the film and television, while the profits and attention of film and television adaptation provides the writer with abundant creative environment. However, in this "the Old Tales Retold", "popularization" and "familiarization", the two core content of movie and television culture, is inevitable. The conspiracy of fiction and film will inevitably lead to the variation of novel text content. The classic image of women in her novel has made the shift towards secularization, and the original flavor and essence inevitably loss in the adaptation, while the long-term interaction with film also restricts the Yan Geling’s novels to explore diversified forms.With the era of image increasingly coming, the interaction between literature and film has become a trend. The situation of the film and the novel interaction, mutual influence and mutual complement has been formed, but we should also be alert to the literariness damage caused by the film adaptation. Through the analysis of the adaptation of Yan Geling’s novels, it is not difficult to see that well to complete the "the Old Tales Retold" is not only to respect the laws of aesthetic appreciation of film and television art, but also need to be faithful to the original content. The writers and the adapters should maintain their artistic independence, only in this way, can make the film and television literature road more stable and forever.
