In The Present Study On The Love And Marriage In Urban Novels Since 1990’s

As a new literature style, the urban novels have grown up in Chinese literature area since the 20th century. The urban novels raised by the modern urbanization process have shown flourishing and bleakness of the urban sight, happiness and unhappiness of the urban living, as well the brightness and hardness of the urban life. In the urban novels, love and marriage as one of the most important subjects in the human literature, has been focused on since the urban novels were born. The main schools of the urban novels in Chinese modern literature have all left lots of works on the urban love and marriage writings, such as Shanghai’s style novels, Beijing’s style novels, enlightenment literature and left-wing literature. They also accumulated plenty of experience as followed: Shanghai’s style urban novels would analyze the lust of the roles in a subtle way, while Beijing’s style would focus on exposing the love, family and marriage life of the urbanites affected by the modern urban culture. The concepts of individual liberation, marrying the partner of one’s own choice and society uplifting suggested by love and marriage in the enlightenment literature and left-wing literature, have been the basic literature and idea resources of the 20th century urban novels in China.Since 1990’s,“the literature ecology”of Chinese literature has been changed by the market economy, urban process and globalization. Every level of Chinese literature from the literary creation to spreading, reading and accepting has faced to the strong challenge. The most important thing is that rising of consumption culture took the challenge to the literature. As a responding, the Chinese urban novels not only keep the tradition but also probe the new adaptation to the language environment of the new consumption literature. We can consider many features of the love and marriage of urban novels since 1990’s as the outcomes of such probing, such as focusing on the normal living, expressing the body lust and adapting to the market logic. In the present study on the love and marriage in urban novels since 1990’s, the new characteristic and new direction in the new language culture were noticed. The presented writers and works were selected to emerge the changes of the love and marriage urban novels from the aspects of figure making, narrative mode and cultural deposits.In figure making, since 1990’s, the urban novels tried to document the roles as the truth and show the motions such as worriment of the modern urbanites in the urban living with rapid rhythm and rich materials. The oppression and worriment have been the basic status of the hero and heroine in the love and marriage urban novels, indicating to the moral worriment and motion confusing when the people face the materials, lust and marriage. Life has been the main part of the love and marriage, but not the background that the love and marriage have to exceed. The human fall in love and get married in the daily life, and then learn to know love and marriage in the life, at last, control their own love and marriage to make good life. Corresponding to this, the urban novels searched the romance in the life with nothing remarkable, and then imprint it by method of writing love and marriage novels with post-modernist. Such love and marriage novels normally include the challenge to the logical thinking, i. e.“pure love”and“ethics”, so that the novels show both the pioneer posture and the suspicion of fawning on customs and seeking novelty. Image creation narrating is one of the characters of the love and marriage urban novels since 1990’s, because the urban novels were affected by the public screen culture with rapid development, which makes it purchase the intuitionist language style and the hipping subject selection.
