The Research on city fire problem has important theoretical and practical significance in the process of urbanization in China, the domestic social science literatures has been paid more attention to the relationship between Socioeconomic factors to fire Incidence in the national level or provincial level, mainly dedicated to the comparative study among provinces and cities and regions, with the description of general characteristics, however, there are few studies on the fire structural problem and the relationship between the fire Incidences and Socioeconomic factors within a city, the situation has not much practical significance in the aspect of the fire prevention and the fire resource allocation within a city or a region. On the basis of the human ecology as the theoretical analysis tool, the dissertation uses the open social and economic statistical data, the existing research results of city fire and the actual situation of fire in recent years, combining theory with practice, a variety of research methods, the study relate fire hazard to social and economic variables within a city from the demographic characteristics, social economic system, social area environment. This dissertation focuses on the three questions:(1)How are the age trends of Shanghai fire hazard? What is the correlations among the level of urban economic development, education and population, and the fire hazard?(2)Are there structural problems of fire within a city? What are the Socioeconomic factors catching fire? (3)How are the social economic factors causing fires in terms of specific social area? The research conclusions can be summarized as follows:(1)The influence of economic level on fire shows time differences, economic development does not necessarily lead to deterioration or improvement of fire hazard, but the pattern of fire is caused by an interaction of population, Socioeconomic system and social area environment.(2)The relationship between population density and fire hazard shows different in times, before the 21st Century, there is a strong positive correlation between population density and fire rate, negative correlation with the injury rate and, but little impact on the fire mortality.(3)The change of Shanghai fire number shows differences within the city, gathered from central city to suburban areas, and the tendency of aggregation is strengthening.(4)There are significantly differences in Gender, age, household type, education level, occupation and health of affected population. The mortality rate of the elderly is higher than that of the overall population, the injury rate of the floating population is higher than that of the household population, the casualty ratio of children age 18 or younger is not high.(5)Fire hazard and social area environment are highly correlated, the quality of housing, fire control facilities and power distribution, social area type are important factors of fire hazard. Based on these conclusions, the future fire prevention strategy should not be taken just for hazard prediction, control and rescue technology, but should be for a comprehensive social reform of the vulnerable social groups, the affected area, social relations and so on.
