In the21st century, the mainstream of the world is innovation and variation. Thefield of Architecture is of no exception. As regards to innovation, Chinese architectsgenerally suffered in comparison with their foreign counterparts. Under thesecircumstances, an introduction to one of the most creative French Architects--OdileDecq becomes very essential. This thesis probes a detailed study on the architecturalexperiments of Odile Decq from the perspectives of history, culture and anthropology.By adopting interdisciplinary research and case analysis, it summarizes Odile Decq’sinnovative mind and theory evolved in the initial, early and mature stages of herarchitectural endeavor. Through case study, it eyes on the originality and mutation in herarchitectural creations. Finally based on a comprehensive analytical approach, itencapsulates the designing theory and thinking mode of Odile Decq and points out thepotential inspiration and enlightenment the study will bring to Chinese Architecturefield.As an active female architect with clear-cut individuality, Odile Decq iscommented as one of the most creative architect by architectural reports and hasbecome one of the most important contributors to French contemporary architecturalculture and history. A systemic study on Odile Decq’s architectural idea and theory willopen a window to the inheritance and development of French contemporary theoreticalthoughts in architecture, which will definitely enrich our research and knowledge onFrench architects.This thesis consists of3parts which cover the study on Odile Decq’s innovative pursuit in her architectural designing. First, based on Odile Decq personal experienceand the perspective of Cultural Anthropology, it displays the background of theformation of her innovative mind and analyzes the typical works of her differentgrowing stages to reveal that Odile Decq’s architectural idea and theory is built on herinnovations and risks in practice.(Chapter II, III); Second, by analytical study on OdileDecq’s designing method and individuality, it concludes that her pursuit in rationality,harmony and innovation stems from her original thinking and innovation-provokingpersonality.(Chapter IV, V); Third, through comparative study on the works of OdileDecq and other architects, it points out the inspirations to Chinese architectural theory,architectural education as well as architectural designing.The creativeness of this thesis lies in: it summarizes that Odile Decq’s architecturaltheory originates from her boldness and innovations in practice based on the research onher architectural practice and progression. What’s more, it summarizes Odile Decq’screative mind and designing approach by penetrating into her works. Besides, itsummarizes Odile Decq’s innovation-provoking personality by comparing Odile Decqwith other architects.All in all, this thesis tries to demonstrate the innovations of Odile Decq’sarchitectural design which are propelled by the spirit of this era, by her unceasingpractice and her innovation-provoking personality. These studies will provide profoundenlightenment and valuable references to later attempts in architectural designinnovation.
