A Study On Chinese Industrial Agglomeration And The Regional Economic Growth

The dissertation studies an old topic about the regional economic growth and regional economic disparity. However it is not based on the mainstream neo-classic economic growth theory. It is due to two reasons. First, many scholars have studied the problem and it is hard to find the new points. Secondly, the neo-classic economic growth theory can explain the economic convergence,But it can not explain the economic disparity. The world economic disparity among countries or within a regional has become larger since the industrial revolution and there is no convergence trend. Even the endogenous growth theory developed after 1980's can not explain the economic disparity.The new economic geography theory developed by Paul Krugman (1991) etc since 1990's put the regional factors of economic activity into the economic theory, they study the industrial agglomeration and disperse theory ,then provide a new point. The dissertation inspired by the neo-economic geography theory try to make a research on the question of regional economic growth in china from the point of industrial agglomeration .Industrial agglomeration is the agglomeration in some special regions .It is the most remarkable feature in modern international economic development .There are a lot of industrial agglomeration in either developed or developing countries.Since the reforms and opening-up, Chinese economy has made a rapid progress. The level of whole economy has increased, and the economic activity location has changed heavily. An obvious feature is that there are a lot of industrial agglomeration regions in china .There are more industrial agglomeration regions in coastal china than in the middle and west regions .So the economic tendency of the east coast presents strong raise-up and is more rapid than the latter .The regional disparity become more and more sharp .Currently ,in china all fields have concentrate on the question of regional economic disparity .Therefore ,there is important reality significance in the research .The empirical research is the core of the dissertation .At first , make a research about the cause of Chinese industrial agglomeration .Secondly , analyze the effect of industrial agglomeration on Chinese regional economic growth .The dissertation is divided into eight chapters , the main idea for each is as follows:The first chapter states the meanings of this topic , provide research logic and methods, then summarize the analysis scheme and content ,finally make a conclusion of originality and weakness.The second chapter is a summary of industrial agglomeration theory.The third chapter introduces the cause of industrial agglomeration and the mechanism of regional economic growth. At first, from the point of the first nature advantage and the second nature advantage to state the cause. Secondly, the key of the dissertation is the second nature advantage. I make use of the core-periphery model to analyze the effect of labor mobility and capital mobility on regional economic growth. Therefore, other empirical research is based on this chapter.The forth chapter analyze the Chinese industrial agglomeration condition. At first make the research about the history and the current. Secondly, take use of special agglomeration index number to assess the level of Chinese industrial agglomeration, make a conclusion that there is a large amount of industrial agglomeration in many industries .At last, analyze the factor which affect on Chinese industrial agglomeration.The fifth chapter makes an empirical research about the relationship between labor mobility and industrial agglomeration in china. The conclusion is that there isn't obvious relationship between labor mobility and industrial agglomeration.The sixth chapter makes a research of the relationship between capital mobility and industrial agglomeration. The conclusion is that there is strong relativity between FDI and industrial agglomeration .And with the time goes on, the relativity becomes more and more strong.The seventh chapter makes an empirical research about the relationship between industrial agglomeration and regional economic growth. The key of this chapter is constructing an economic model to analyze. In the course of analyzing, collect panel data to make a regression analysis .And the conclusion is that there is obvious effect from labor agglomeration and capital agglomeration on Chinese regional economic growth. However, capital agglomeration affect more than labor agglomeration on it .The eighth chapter is the policy research and suggestions. At first analyze the policy significance of new economic geography theory. Secondly, state the policy guidance from it. At last, from the point of industrial agglomeration make suggestions about how to promote regional economic growth and reduce regional disparity in china.
