Study Of The Literature Of Traditional Chinese Writing Paper

Paper making is one of the most important contributions that China made for the world. Concentrating on papers for writing poems and letters and for manuscripts and hand-copied books, this dissertation researches into the traditional Chinese writing papers.The dissertation is divided into two main parts. Partâ… centers on Chinese traditional letter papers. There are four chapters. Chapterâ… studies the "Xue Tao paper". Through collecting and examining the poems and writings by Xue Tao and her friends, and comparing the "Xue Tao paper" in literature and in actually use, this chapter tries to find the real letter papers Xue Tao used in Tang Dynasty and how the so-called "Xue Tao paper" was developed .Chapterâ…¡focuses on the relationship between the form of letter paper and traditional writing practice. Through collecting and analyzing the history literatures and real letter papers, this chapter tries to make it clear that what is the letter paper of eight lines and how the practice of writing a letter in eight lines fashioned.Chapterâ…¢andâ…£study the letter papers made and used by Yu Yue and Qu Qi, two scholars in late Qing Dynasty . How they selected the contents and made the letter papers, when the papers used , what the letters said and the practice reflected, are all the concerns of these chapters.There are three chapters in Partâ…¡. Chapter I divided the traditional papers for manuscripts and hand-copied books with wood block frame into three kinds, and analyze their headstream and features.Chapterâ…¡introduces the method of judging ancient manuscripts and hand-copied books by seizing the features of all kinds of papers and the famous frame papers.Chapterâ…¢is a chart of papers with wood block frame. There are 345 kinds of different frame papers for manuscripts and hand-copied books all together. Each has one or more examples and derivations. It's the fullest chart of frame paper up to now.By analyzing the literatures and real writing papers, this dissertation tries to make up the shortage of traditional philology and open up a new research direction.
