The Study Of The Printed Edition Of Mao Shi Zhu Shu With Collation Attached By Ruan Yuan

The printed edition of Mao Shi Zhu Shu with collation Attached by Ruan Yuan belongs to the book comprising a collection of Chinese ancient classics named The Thirteen Classics with Collation Attached which was also printed and published by him.The study subject of the thesis is the photo-offset copy of Ruan's Mao Shi Zhu Shu with Collation Attached by Zhong Hua Books Company in the year of 1980.The study shows the original proofreader of Mao Shi Zhu Shu with Collation Attached is Gu Guangqi and the re-proofreader is not Ruan Yuan but Duan Yucai and the latter actually is the chief editor.The thesis includes two volumes:Introduction and Six Parts.In Introduction,it is raised that Ruan Yuan's Mao Shi Zhu Shu is beneficial to the classic works significantly but not the best edition,which is based on three main parts: improperly choosing original text,lacking of the best popular collation and covering a lot of mistaken and ignored collation.In Part One,comments are made on Maojin's Ji Gu Ge Edition and Wu Ying Dian Edition respectively,which are prior to Ruan's Edition.In these comments,so many new ideas which are different from traditional ones have been put forward, taking,for example,some arbitrary and subjective criticisms on Maojin's Ji Gu Ge Edition.In Part Two,the studies of the original text of Ruan's Edition are made critically, it also compares Zuli Edition with the original text of Ruan's Edition in detail and explains the collated value of Mao Shi Zheng Yi With Commentate Attached Only and testifies the truth that Zuli Edition is used as the original text of Mao Shi Zhu Shu and Mao Shi Zheng Yi With Commentate Attached Only as the general collation.As to the absence of some volumes of Mao Shi Zheng Yi With Commentate Attached Only,the thesis designs a very practical remedial plan.Part Three,Four and Five are all comments on the collation of Ruan's Edition.Part Three puts up an objection against the academic value of Collation of Shi San Jing Zhu Shu by Ruan Yuan,compares and studies the two editions of Collation of Mao Shi Zhu Shu of Ruan Yuan,elaborates many remarkable milestones set up by the work of Ruan Yuan's collation in the field of Confucian classics' collation,and analyzes the principles of Original,Second and Last collation initiated by Ruan Yuan.Part Four reveals the important breakthrough of Ruan Yuan's theory of "sub-commentary attached to annotation",puts forward the theory of "Zheng Yi has interpreted the given notes based on Kong Yingda's personal understanding", summarizes the writing styles of Mao Zhuan,Zheng Jian and Kong Shu,and gives some suggestions which are different from the existing ones about the remedial collation of Collation of Mao Shi Zhu ShuPart Five analyzes the advantages and the disadvantages of the way of collating logically used by Ruan Yuan's and demonstrates some improperly collation and other flaws of Ruan's Edition.Part Six outlines all quoted ancient books to Ruan's Mao Shi Zhu Shu.Based on the above research,the thesis draws some innovated conclusions:to clarify the genuine author of Shi San Jing Zhu Shu Zheng Zi,to expound the truth that Lu Wenzhao's works are the primary and best resource of quotation used by Ruan Yuan, however,which is consciously or unconsciously ignored by Ruan Yuan,to show the fact that although Ruan Yuan understood the important collated value of Wang Yinzhi's Jing Yi Shu Wen,unfortunately it hasn't been quoted in Jiao Kan Ji.The appendix to the thesis involves three parts,the essential part of which is to provide scholars with the checked and punctuated edition of Ruan's Collation of Mao Shi Zhu Shu for the first time.
