Faced with the challenges brought about by the competition from other publishing enterprises and other media through out China and the globe, a publishing enterprise is in an urgent need of carrying out the knowledge management strategies. It also needs to implement an overall reformation of its management mechanism and operation mechanism, by taking the knowledge resources as the most important strategic resources and focusing on how to control and make full use of the knowledge resources in order to adapt to new situations and promote its innovative capability. Thus, it is meaningful to carry out a theoretical research on and a practical exploration of the knowledge management in publishing enterprises, which will be beneficial to the sustainable development of any individual publishing enterprise and the publishing industry as a whole.Taking the publishing enterprises as the subject, this thesis carries out a systematic and a step by step study of the theories and implementing methods for knowledge management in publishing enterprises. Based on the theories of knowledge management in enterprises, theories of management in knowledge-typed enterprises, theories of publishing management and other relevant theories and methods, this thesis makes an analysis of the macro, medium and micro competition environments that the enterprises are in and the role of knowledge management in promoting the core competitiveness of the enterprises, and constructs a strategic scheme for the knowledge management in publishing enterprises and the implementing mode for it. This thesis also points out the guarantee mechanism for the operation of the knowledge management in publishing enterprises, sets up an index system of performance evaluation of the knowledge management in publishing enterprises, and proves that this evaluation system is scientific and feasible with a case study of a typical publishing enterprise.This thesis mainly includes theoretical study, environmental study, scheme implementation and its guarantee mechanism study, performance evaluation and a typical case study. The main contents of this thesis are as follow:1. The theoretical study concerning the knowledge management in the publishing enterprisesThe theoretical study includes the section of the fundamental theories and the section of theory construction.First of all, this thesis deals with the fundamental theories of the knowledge management in publishing enterprises. In the preface, the term of the knowledge management in publishing enterprises is defined. In the second chapter, the theories of knowledge management in enterprises, theories of management in knowledge-typed enterprises, and other relevant theories are expounded.Secondly, this thesis deals with the role that knowledge management plays in promoting the core competitiveness of enterprises from four aspects concerning knowledge management process, namely knowledge accumulation, knowledge sharing, knowledge application and knowledge innovation, and it constructs an overall analysis mode of the role of knowledge management. Concerning knowledge management construction, namely strategic scheme, human resources, organization structure adjustment, enterprise culture and technique exchange platform, this thesis also constructs an overall analysis mode of the role of knowledge management.2. The environmental study concerning the knowledge management in publishing enterprisesThe environmental study is essential for the knowledge management in publishing enterprises. The thesis deals with the environmental elements which affect the production and operation of publishing enterprises from macro, medium and micro levels. The macro level refers to the competition in the international publishing market, the competition from other media and the opportunities and challenges brought about by new technology revolution to the publishing enterprises. The medium level refers to the state policies and regulations, the competition between the publishing enterprises of higher level and those of lower level, and the competition between different publishing enterprises of the same level. The micro level refers to the internal management environment of the publishing enterprises, including manufacturing workflow, organization structure, human resources, enterprise culture, and information technology and so on.3. The scheme implementation and its guarantee mechanism concerning the knowledge management in publishing enterprisesThe strategic scheme, its implementation and guarantee mechanism concerning the knowledge management in publishing enterprises are the main contents of the application research in this thesis. Based on the mode of the role of knowledge management in promoting the core competitiveness of publishing enterprises, this thesis designs a detailed strategic scheme and its implementation plan according to the whole process through which the goal of knowledge management in publishing enterprises are realized. This thesis puts forward the guarantee mechanism as follow:(1) In order to design a scientific and feasible strategic scheme and its implementation plan for the knowledge management in publishing enterprises, this thesis takes"the wheel of knowledge"theory and the"the wooden pail of knowledge"theory as the foundation of a theoretical study. It points out clearly the concept of knowledge management strategy, the principles and work flow of formulating the strategies.(2) Based on the traditional cybernetics, this thesis puts forward the knowledge management cybernetics for publishing enterprises. It deals with the knowledge management system in the publishing enterprises from four aspects, namely management driving mechanism, cultural leading mechanism, innovation encouraging mechanism, risk avoiding mechanism. This thesis also constructs an overall mode of these mechanisms and explains how these mechanisms interact and affect each other.4. The index system of performance evaluation for the knowledge management in publishing enterprises and a typical case studyThis part of the thesis deals with how to evaluate the performance of the knowledge management in publishing enterprises. It makes an analysis of the implication, significance, principles and methods of performance evaluation and constructs an index system for it.Based on the previous theoretical and practical analysis, the thesis chooses People's Post Press as the object of a case study, and analyses its knowledge management performance with the"five star balance"evaluation system, in order to prove that the theories and empirical study are feasible and provide instruction for other publishing enterprise in their knowledge management.Above all, this thesis follows a standard research pattern: basic concept—theoretical analysis—application in practice—empirical study. It discusses the theories concerning the knowledge management in publishing enterprises, puts forward the strategic scheme and its implementation plan, constructs a guarantee mechanism for its operation, and proposes the methods of performance evaluation with a typical case study.
