AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) is one of the important domains of Computer Aided Design. It is related to many fields such as oil, chemistry, construction, textile, bridge and road industries. It has very broad applying value. Nowadays the technology of AEC gets a very fast development, and much software has been released. But as the applying demand becomes general and complicate, there are many challenges to traditional CAD technologies and methodologies. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of engineering design and that of the current technology and software of AEC, this paper puts forward the new design methods based on Engineering Template. The main contributions of this dissertation are as follows:Putting forward the concept of ET (Engineering Template). Based on the research of template applying in the computer industry, this paper puts forward the semantic definition of ET and then analyses its characteristics. ET's traits are exactly accord to AEC. ET can be well used to process the more complicate objects in engineering design.Putting forward the design methods based on ET. With ET, AEC can process the more complicate objects in engineering design, react at the uninterrupted growing demand in time, make the design process and design result comply with the standard of nations and fields, fully embody the design specialist's thoughts and logic, support the information exchange between objects in different fields, support the cooperative design and implement the parallel design.Researching the problems that must be worked out during applying ET to engineering design. At first, putting forward a classification method which is fit for the engineering constraints and the customs of engineering designer to build the template hierarchy and divide the design object based on the characteristic of the problem, and then deciding the implement layer based on the thorough thought of implement difficulty, user demand and etc., at last refining the design rules, the design standards and the user demands on the implement layer.Putting forward a set of classification and problem dividing method based on the joint design in PDSOFT Steelworks CAD system.
