AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) is an important domain inComputer Aided Design. It is related to many engineering issues and has broadapplications. Structure analysis and computing is an important part of AEC. It analyzes thereliability and stability of the design model, which will facilitate the detail design in the laterstage.Structure analysis and computing involves some steps such as computationmodeling, computation method selection, computation result analysis andoptimization. However, some problems exist due to the complicated computationmodel. A new modeling methods presented in this dissertation is proposed to integratethe design and analysis process. The model architecture utilizes the geometriccharacteristics, physics characteristics and computation attributes of engineeringobjects. This method can efficiently represent and manipulate physical features andgeometric design for larger scale modeling applications in different areas.The major work of this dissertation is concluded as follows:1. A unified model based on the hierarchical architecture is proposed, whichencapsulates the characteristics of the design and analysis in AEC orientedCAD. The model combines different topology elements such as point, line andsurface. When this model links the chain model for physical features, thecomplex modeling problem can be solved smoothly for the description ofkernel modeling data and the physical properties. The model efficiently unifiesthe data definition for both physical features and topological or geometricdesign for larger scale modeling applications in different areas.2. The chain model is applied to link physical features with corresponding elasticelements. The transformation between different physical features is achievedby the computation based on the chain model. This computation modelsimplifies the description and transformation for physical features in theanalysis computing, and it is also efficient and flexible.3. The transformation system is flexibly defined for customized design. Thespecified application model can be transformed from the kernel model byincluding the engineering properties and rules. The transformation can be doneby the transformation functions set or by the transformation rules set.
