Abstract Electronic image stabilization is a new technology to stabilize video image. Because of its advantages of high image stabilizing precision, compact size, lightweight, low power consumption, reasonable price and real time processing function, the electronic image stabilization has found a wide application in the weaponry in other countries, and therefore become a focus of military competition among developed countries. The ship-borne TV reconnaissance system has a far acting distance, and the focal length of it's optical system is long. Influenced by the vibration of the carrier, the problems of image fuzziness and instability tend to be striking out, which becomes a bottleneck restricting the ship-borne reconnaissance. This thesis, being brought along as a key military mission of the nation, has carried out an intensive study of the ship-borne electronic image stabilization based on the Gyro, and achieved the effective real time stabilization of the ship-borne video image.This thesis analyzed the blurring cause of image sequences taken by ship-borne imaging sensors and proposed the necessity of electronic image stabilization for the ship-borne imaging system. It expatiated principle and method of electronic image stabilization in detail and discussed key technique of realization, and contrasted the shortcomings and merits of two kind of motion vector estimation ways based on the gyro and based on the algorithm.The implement of method based on the Gyro which applied to stabilization of image sequences taken by ship-borne imaging sensor is introduced .The main factors to affect the accuracy of Gyro have been analyzed and the corresponding countermeasure is presented.In view of the"void spots"and mosaics of image occurred after compensating the image rotating, adopting the methods of changing the rotation formula and smoothly processing the image to assures the precision of the image compensation. It can realize smoothly processing the image sequences to assure its stabilization. which effectively maintains the image display information and increases the visual effect of image stabilization.
