In image pickup system on vehicle, the output of image sequence is unstable because the video camera shakes with the vehicle. Therefore this paper puts forward a new stabilizing system that can timely stabilize image sequences and remove the unwanted movements of camcorders.On the basis of general design scheme of image stabilization system, this paper has given the hardware's design proposal of this system. The hardware mainly consists by CCD video, video chip and DSP, and the main ICs are connected by I~2C bus. This paper also studies on each technical tache of electronic image stabilizing, and puts forward a new stabilizing algorithm. The primary contributions of this paper are as follows:Firstly, a new method for image registration is proposed based on mutual information of feature points. Its calculation is very low and we needn't search the most mapping pair of feature points, so local limit is avoided.Secondly, based on building motion models, Kalman filtering is employed to facilitate smooth operation and realize motion compensation.At last, a lot of image stabilization experiments have been carried out with the video image sequence taken by pickup and image stabilizing system for vehicle. The simulation and experimental results demonstrates that this method proposed in this thesis is feasible.
