Traditional network management technologies can not fulfill the requirements of today's Internet service management. In order to increase competitive advantage, it's necessary for Service Providers (SP) to provide QoS (Quality of Service) support for their services. However, services are being deployed over an infrastructure that spans multiple control domains. It is required that a service management system has the ability to effectively and securely manage these services across administrative boundaries. In this thesis, research work focues on the research of Web Services-based management technology, which include four issues: 1) the performance evaluation of secure Web Services-based management technology; 2) the Web Services-based service management system; 3) the Web Services-based service management protocol; 4) the fine-grained access control model for service management information. The achievements are as followings:1) In order to evaluate the effect of authentication and privacy operations of the secure Web Services on the network performance, a secure Web Services-based management prototype is implemented and its performance is evaluated. We study, with different retrieved objects, the effect of the computation load introduced by authentication and privacy services on the performance. Also, we get the relationship between the performance of Web Services and the number of retrieved objects with the effect of different security levels of Web Services as well as the effect of compression of management data. Simultaneously, further research is done to compare the performance of secure Web Services and SNMPv3 with respect to bandwidth usage and round trip delay. It is shown that, by introducing the security (authentication and privacy) mechanism, Web Services increases the computational load. However, compressed secure Web Services works better than SNMPv3 when the number of the retrieved objects is large. So the additional load caused by secure Web Services is still acceptable.2) In order to realize the service management across different management domain,...
