Design And Implementation Of Short Message Service Interconnection System

Starting from the end of 20th century, internet technology and application developed rapidly worldwide. With internet subscriptions exploding exponentially, countless ISPs (internet service provider) and ICPs (internet content provider) shot out and flourished. But stepping into 21st century, IT industry hit a doldrums. This is because SPs had no pay-off plans in mind when they competed in pushing out new services such as free browsing and downloading. At that time, the only data service that several thousand million mobile users could enjoy is SMS.This article puts forward a SMS integration system, which builds a passage between internet and mobile users and extends internet access to millions of mobile users; this SMS integration system also constructs a billing and payment system that enables services with charge. There is no similar technology and application abroad.This system consists of three levels: the upper one is information source; the middle one is SMS network; the lower level is composed of SMSCs. The gateways in the middle level are to provide a safe and fast passage between SPs and SMSC in order to facilitate communication between mobile users and SPs.The SMS integration system is based on a set of protocols. This article designs a set of interface protocols in detail. This set of protocols draws the system's structure, standardizes communication processes and packet message definition.The system adopts Linux operation system in main parts. There are three factors that influence Linux operation system's real-time functionality: disable interruption, non-preemptive kernel and priority-based task management strategy. Combination of low delay and preemptive kernel can solve Linux's non-preemptive. Besides, the system replaces single running tasks queue with multiple running tasks queues. All these measures can greatly improve Linux operation system's real-time functionality.This system has been successfully applied in China Unicom.
