With the rapid progress of the information techniques, Internet has been a huge public date network. Millions of all kinds of consumers have used Internet with a large area. Such fast growing consumers make the data amount of the Internet is increasing exponentially. For adapting the fast growing requirement of services and bandwidth, and meet the challenge to network capacity from new technologies that occur now and tomorrow, all the ISP of the world must increase their network scale and bandwidth right now. For such goal, a new control and management technology for broadband network that can meet the requirement of almost all service and transmission technologies is needed. The IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force ) proposes the MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) technology. MPLS is new technology that can expedite the speed of date transmission and switch in open communication network, since it is proposed in 1997, it has been developed quickly for efficiency and compatibility. It brings connection-oriented feature into connectionless network and fits for lots of existing networks. It is a technology independent on the physical layer and data link layer, so it unites all kinds of transmission technologies on same MPLS platform, and which ensure the interconnection of all kinds of network. The basic features of MPLS are: reducing the complexity of the network, uniting the existing fashion network technology, reducing the cost of network organizing, guaranteeing the QoS and security when providing IP traffic , and supporting the function like traffic engineering that improve the network operation efficiency.MPLS technology has lots of area and direction that can be studied into, which is the trend of the network development. And now, it can be applied in DWDM optical network. So more and more people think that MPLS can be a unified control and management platform that uniting all the levels and kinds of the existing networks, and then the MPLS-based broadband IP network will be the trend of future backbone network, so it's necessary to be studied into.As the capacity improved by electronical TDM is close to its limitation, the only way out is the DWDM, so the transmission layer of future broadband IP network can be DWDM layer, the network architecture and supporting technologies like flow control or routing will be different based on the management of MPLS.This dissertation just tries to study the MPLS-based broadband IP network. The study concludes: future network architecture - like architecture design on circuit-switching-based IP/WDM network and the operation model of MPX(lambda)S; flow control technologies like packet discarding policy and queuing control mechanism; and routing strategy. According to the different way of combing IP and DWDM layer., we study the QoS route selection strategy supporting traffic engineering and IP/DWDM integration routing strategy together.This dissertation is consisted by five parts with nine chapters.IVThe first part is the first chapter. We introduce two developing clues for future Internet - QoS and high transmission capacity. Then we introdusce all the supporting technologies of the IP QoS first, the two resource allocation architecture - InterServ and DiffSeerv, the two optimization mechanism - MPLS and traffic engineering. Then summarize the history background of the MPLS technology, its technique kernel, MPLS traffic engineering. As the key technology to provide high capacity of transmission, DWDM is the basic of future Internet, which is also need to support QoS by the MPLS. At the same time, the MPe(lambda)S - the new application of MPLS in DWDM optical network is also presented.The second part studies the network architecture of MPLS-based broadband IP network, which is consisting by two chapters-chapter 2 and 3. After overview and conclude the traditional architecture of IP network, we propose a new network architecture of ckcuit-switching-based IP/DWDM network., and then give the operation model of MPe(lambda)S.The chapter 2 discusses the...
