Fieldbus control system is the trend of control system. Through worked quite well the traditional DCS system still have some weakness: First, the commumcation between the instrument and the control station of the DCS using analog signal and it may be easily disturbed. Second, all kinds of DCS systems are closed to each other for every manufacturer has their own system architecture. They can抰 interchange the components between them, neither the control software. The 3rd weakness is that all of its control firnctions are centralized in the control stations and is regarded to be dangerous. The foundation fieldbus discussed in this paper is a good solution to these problems The foundation fieldbus protocol includes low speed standard (FF4-Il) and high speed standard (FF-HSE). Both of these two standard are the EEC standards. The system architecture of these protocols complicated and advanced due to the combination of communication and control functions. The implementation of the protocols is technical secret through the protocol is exoteric. The main research work includes as following: 1. The system architecture of the FF protocol is analyzed by comparing to other fieldbus (Chapter 1). 2. The implementation of FF-Hl communication stack is presented (Chapter2-3). The implementation of the FF-HI protocol抯 physical layer standard, the FE-HI protocol抯 basic device data link layer standard, the FF4-Il protocol抯 link master device data link layer standard, the FF-Hl protocol抯 application layer standard and network management and system management standards are included. The low power consuming technology and instinct safety technology is used. Also as the R.TOS, the special memory allocation technology and OPC technology. 3 The implementation of the FF441 protocol抯 user layer standard is presented (Chapter 4-5). The function blocks are developed and applied to instrumentations. A FF temperature transmitter is developed as an example. A FF-PC interface card is also developed. 4. The system architecture of FF-HSE protocol is introduced and some protocol in the Ethernet entity is implemented (Chapter 6), such as UDP, EP, ARP and R.ARP. The methods to improve the performance of the HSE system are also discussed. 4 5 The architecture of the fteldbus control system using HI and HSE devices is discussed (Chapter 7). The archit~tures of DCS which using FF technology is also discussed.
