It is a hot topic in applying Ethernet technology to industrial control. In this article, High Speed Ethernet (HSE) was selected as the study object. Especially, some key technologies used in HSE were mainly focused. Keeping on with our project developing the communication stack software of HSE, technologies used in design and test are paid much attention in the article.As switching technology, virtual LAN technology and full-duplex technology applied, Ethernet has solved its undeterministic nature problem. Using Ethernet technology, HSE interoperating with Foundation Fieldbus HI, is one of the most valuable industrial Ethernet technologies. Also, HSE provides very important reference to Industrial Ethernet standardization.Chapter 2 provides the architecture of HSE and its communication stack model.Chapter 3 focused on those key technologies used in HSE, such as time synchronization, communication flow control, virtual address management, etc. Using Finite State Machine Model, setup and release processes of virtual communication channels provided by HSE were particularly studied. Paying attention on the real-time performance of our software, with time delay model, "One-Time Copy" technology was used in our design.Chapter 4 focused on our communication stack software design with four parts: software architecture, unit module, module interfaces and unit integration.Chapter 5 detailed some main methods and processes used in testing our communication stack software.As communication stack is only a base platform for HSE networking control system, much work should be taken into account in the future.
