In the global market competition of 21st century, all the enterprises are facing with many different challenges, the enterprise must transfer and share product information quickly and effectively with worldwide customers, manufacturers, distributors and suppliers. In this aspect, product lifecycle management technology has reflected its irreplaceable superiority, and has been widely used in batch manufacturing industry. However due to the particularity of shipbuilding and related industries, general PLM solutions cannot be applied to ship structure. In recent years, to satisfy the requirements of speeding ship owner response in design and construction, improving operation safety and upgrading the management ability, many organizations started the study on ship hull lifecycle management.As industry strategy plan, ship structure lifecycle management can change the current business pattern of each enterprise on the information chain, integrate the computer applications of each enterprise, and enable all the systems that process data operation, business decision and activity control can be interconnected, eliminate the segregation between enterprises, and enhance the collaboration between them. As application software system, ship structure lifecycle management is mainly to control and manage data processing in each stage of ship structure lifecycle based on ship structure lifecycle modeling and integration, which is a information system oriented to data integration, knowledge base management and process optimization.This paper firstly studied the concept and connotation of ship structure lifecycle, analyzed the model requirement of business in each stage of whole lifecycle, and investigated the modeling technology of ship structure lifecycle modeling.By analyzing the means of expressing graphics of ship structure in computer system, it proposed the method of heterogeneous CAX data exchange using XML, which was illustrated between two different CAD systems. By studying the functions and the performance of current lightweight CAD model formats, it developed the specialized lightweight CAD model for ship structure lifecycle management, and presented the related modeling method. It proposed the framework of ship structure lifecycle modeling based on the research of modeling technology.Ship structure lifecycle model integration provide the information framework for ship structure lifecycle management, which consists of many information elements as basic technology and standards, information generation tool, kernel functions and application interfaces.Starting with the study on the composition of ship structure lifecycle model, it analyzed each stage model and each type of digital model, established the data flow and logical relationship, and concentrated on the model integration. It introduced the concept of knowledge engineering and design structure matrix optimization, built the framework of ship structure lifecycle model integration based on the combination between object-oriented technology and parametric method. It was demonstrated of the CAD-CFD integration and CAD-FEA integration.It studied the meaning and implementation environment of ship structure lifecycle management, analyzed the kernel value of ship structure lifecycle management for the whole industry. From the view of software development, it analyzed the key technologies and pivotal problems for the development of ship structure lifecycle management system. It built the framework of ship structure lifecycle management system using MVC concept, based on the framework of ship structure lifecycle modeling and that of ship structure lifecycle model integration.It finally analyzed the architecture and basic function modules of ship structure lifecycle management system, and developed the function of browsing lightweight model of ship structure, the function of managing business flows in ship structure lifecycle, and the function of managing business rules in ship structure lifecycle. On that basis it developed ship owner management subsustem as prototype system, which can help ship owner view ship structure condition data more directly, make analysis more deeply and corporate more efficiently, and then improve the decision and response. It also developed mobile inspection support system based on intelligent mobile device, which not only enhance the ability of processing inspection data, but also improve the safety and convenience.
