Study On Federated Library Resources Management Model

In the last decade, universities in China had got a process of merging and restructuring, which brought business environment of university library management system a change from stable, centralized way to variable, distributed way. At the same time strengthen the cooperation between department library and central library, and supporting the business process between university libraries got increasingly important.Infrastructure of library management system lacked ability to support business processes on-demand, coordination between organizations. The way that System reconstruction or change without planning ignores the return on investment is the prominent problem for library management system practice.Specifically, improving efficiency and utilization of resources, to meet the library business development trend, this dissertation had the main contributions are as the following:First, a definition for library management system which based information system, integrated system, and library integrated system, was given, Also Pointed out that resources management rage of library management spread to federated library, and cooperation are increasingly indispensable, the library management system needs to support the relevant technical standardsSecond, proposed a library management system type distinction methodThird, proposed federated library, a concept that migrate federal to library by drawing a comparisons of station with library, to smooth multi-library cooperation problem. And gave its reason for migrate federal to library.Fourth, based the fundamental federated library, and analysis the current technology that can bring library management system changes on computing environment, data management and system integration, Federated library resources planning was proposed, which include frame architecture, SOA-based Gradual development mode of implementation of the scheme. And lower coordination barriers across organization.Finally, a prototype grid system was deployed on diskless workstation system which was about 200 personal computers on scale. Also proposed Grid Computing, Data Warehouse and service-oriented architecture to be bring changes for computing environment, data management and system integration, and draw the conclusion that library management system will based pervasive/grid architecture, data warehouse adoption to support data mining, system architecture will be loose-coupling SOA.Chapter 4 expounded the origination and revolution of service-oriented architecture, and web service standards, and up-to-the-minute research progress on SOA. Then draw three comparisons: CORBA and Web service, OWL-S and WSDL, REST and Web service, which can realize SOA. Finally bring forward that Identity management and access control, web service management, entity aggregation, transaction and integration four areas of SOA need solutions and application value of open source SOA item call for attention.Chapter 5, for the long-term benefits of the library information resources management and development, proposes to outlines the service requirement, participate in the UOML draft making, strengthen the internal and external cooperation, exchange, communication, also discusses the existing problems in current library circle and the impact on digital library brought by emergence of UOML (unstructured operation markup language) standard, which can operate unstructured document with different format. Chapter 6,To find a solution to library problems of lacking of IT financial support, need of IT human resources. This paper point out that establishing library grid following China Grid will be right track for library information construction, and surveyed on Grid items all over the domestic and overseas, gave a review on Grid. Showed roadmap for university library Grid construction, proposed Globus Toolkit build diskless workstation Grid to deploy large scale machines in short time.Chapter 7, From the library management system supports federated library resources management to analyses federated library resources management model and federated library resources management practices modeling, cooperation with the principle of principle, the value of the principles and describe practical federated resources management model elements of the combination of the mechanism established federated library resources management model. To find a solution to problems of Heterogeneous, diversified resources and inconsecutive resources management, forbidding access to resources, this paper gives feasibility analysis for federated resources management based current principal needs, distributing of library management systems, supporting technology of federated database. This paper proposed a federated library resources management model, which are based on technology of federated database. And flowed its configuration and constitution,to solute multi-library cooperation problem.Chapter 8,made a final review, and further studied to specific issues about federated library management solutions.
