Research On The Historical Development And Spatial Operation Of Charitable Organizations In Hebei Province From Qing Dynasty To The Republic Of China (1644-1937)

The purpose of this dissertation is research on charitable organizations by historical geography's perspective in Hebei province from Qing dynasty to the Republic of China. The different theories and methods were used in our study, which included the theories and approaches from subject of history, historical geography and sociology, universality and typicality research. The results of our research indicate that the Charitable organization in Hebei province experienced three times process of spatial expansion, as the final result, the charitable organizations'diversified pattern formatting that including in organization of civilian-run, government-run and religious-run. It was so obvious characteristics for the charitable organizations' imbalance spatial distribution that Beijing, Tianjin and Baoding delta area became the center of dense distribution and spatial expansion for the charitable organizations of civilian-run.The work presented in this dissertation also focuses on the operation model of charitable organization. The investigation has revealed that the cooperation model from government and public was in leading position in the development of charitable organizations in Hebei province, which was decided by the net of deferent powers in charitable organizations. The author has come to the conclusion that the third domain out of government and public society has not been formed in the development of charitable organizations in Hebei province. The system of public charity service has not been set up in the whole province yet, because it was not popular and powerful from the public-run organizations.The research we have done suggests that the cooperation between government and public, deferent region, city and country was the effective way to set up a diversity system of public charity service in the development of modern chartable organizations.
