This paper focuses on the Charitable School Education of Gansu province in the Qing Dynasty, and mainly use historical geography, educational, ethnological, historical, and other methods integratedly. The analysis based on a comprehensive collection of local chronicles in Gansu province since the Qing Dynasty, and adopt combination methods of quantitative analysis and historical comparative, through both macro and micro perspective, to discuss the Charitable School Education’s spatial-temporal distribution, operational status and the role it played in the history.The paper includes three parts:the introduction, text and conclusion.The introduction part consists of the reasons you choose the topic, the significance of the topic, the current research, the research ideas and methods.The body consists of three parts, discusses the following aspects:The first chapter discusses the historical background of the Charitable School Education’s establishment in Gansu province of the Qing Dynasty. First, it explores the cultural and educational policies in the Qing Dynasty, and then, it traces back to the source of the Charitable School Education and its development, at last, it summarizes the situation of politics, economy, education in Gansu province of the Qing Dynasty and so on.The second chapter describes the spatial-temporal distribution of the Charitable School Education in Gansu province of the Qing Dynasty. From the materials analysised can be seen that the Charitable School Education experienced five stages in the Qing Dynasty, which are Shun-kang Period, Yong-qian Period, Jiaqing Period, Daoguang Period and Xian-tong-guang Period. In addition, there are notable space distribution differences between the cities and the villages, between the capitals and general towns, and between the east and mid-west regions in the whole Gansu province.The third chapter mainly discusses the operational condition of the Charitable School Education in Gansu province of the Qing Dynasty. In the the operation and management of the Charitable School Education, the core issues are teaching facilities, teaching management and teaching funds. In addition, it is flexible in the operation, differ from different regions, and significant in raising funds.The epilogue part summarizes the Charitable School Education’s properties, fund raising ways and its historical role. Indeedly, the Charitable School Education’s development could not be separated from the local magistrate’s attention and participation, and the goal was to maintain the local region’s stable development restoration. Finally, the Charitable School Education was replaced by the new modern school education.
