Modern China, "yu Si" Prose

The present paper selects the Chinese modern prose of "Yu Si" style as research object. With Stylistics as its theoretical framework, the paper outbreaks the fade area in previous studies and systematically investigates the historical and cultural context in 1920s to 1930 when prose in "Yu Si" style were written as well as the mixing gains in its self-evolution. Then I will probe into its special meaning to China's modern literature and prose in expectation of a deep understanding of prose's style-uniqueness which exposes modern intellectuals' independent and free spirit.After defining the term "Prose of 'Yu Si' style", the paper spreads its main body: Chapter 1 first analyses the context in which the Chinese modern prose in "Yu Si" style had aroused and later tries to return the prose of 'Yu Si' style to its original ecological background from the perspectives of order of utterance authority, groups of modern literature clubs as well as the culture of commercial media; Chapter 2 focuses on the investigation of the subject's utterance form of the "Yu Si" prose, which has been seen as its "skeleton". In this chapter, fairly important attention will be paid to identify the relation of the author's cultural psychology and cognition anxiety to the prose of 'Yu Si' style in hoping to reveal the psychological traits and inner complexity of the author in "Yu Si" style; Chapter 3 observes the language of the Chinese modern prose in "Yu Si" style. Since language is treated as the skin of the "Yu Si" prose, it is quite likely to touch the cultural spirit in the depth of the "Yu Si" prose through investigating the special utilization of language as well as language's expressional and cultural functions; Chapter 4 makes a big effort in trying to bring the Chinese modern prose of "Yu Si" style into the relationship between Chinese and Japanese literature as well as prose Stylistics in a macroscopic view of the history of modern literature. The paper also tries to identify the mental enlightenment of "Yu Si" prose and its independent literal character in inheriting the tradition and bequeathing to the present time. In the end of this chapter, the paper illustrates the special meaning of the prose of "Yu Si" style, its limits and referential value for the contemporary prose.The present paper establishes its argument in human nature and investigates the Chinese modern prose of "Yu Si" style in a stylistic research angle which is more close to literal prose beyond the traditional angles of literary sociology and literary psychology. It explores the living environment and mental needs of life subject and also probes into its social psychology and aesthetic choice thus further reveal modern intellectuals' free pursuing and the abundant complexity in expressing themselves independently. While seeking the regular pattern for the development of modern prose, it observes the meaning of expressing-subject's self-designing and conceptualization of history, which in nature can be viewed as a text-to-culture systematic research program.
