This research methodology employs a strategy by drawing a comparison between Zhang Zhong Jing's"Shang Han Lun"discussion of Shao Yang patterns and relevant treatments with Yu Gen Chu's"Tong Shu Shang Han Lun"s interpretation of Shao Yang patterns and their associated treatments. Instead of citing Shao Yang location as being half interior and half exterior (an interpretation by Cheng Wu Ji in"Zhu Jie Shang Han Lun") Yu adopts the theory of the"Six Channels Layers Dissection"by citing that the exterior of Shao Yang is associated with cou li (interstices) while the interior is associated with the diaphragm. Clinically, treatment can be differentiated between either a preponderance of an exterior condition or an interior condition by using different herbs and different formulas. Thus, the harmonising strategy of Yu Gen Chu is not restricted to Xiao Chai Hu Tang per se. This reflects that Yu's harmonising strategy apart from following the theory of"Shang Han Lun"is his own contribution thus expanding the scope of clinical treatment of harmonisation by the further development of ten additional treatment strategies and fourteen formulas addressing Shao Yang and its accompanied syndromes. It can be said that his strategies are specifically for the treatment of Shang Han disease, Wen Bing disease and internal disease. His strategy also features special characteristics of the Shao's School of Shang Han theory. In addition, the writer summarised a literature review of the modern research and clinical applications of one of Yu's most popular formula, Hao Qin Qing Dan Tang together with personal application of this formula. This formula has significant theoretical value and considerable clinical relevance. The thesis encompasses the following perspectives:1. Shang Han Lun Shao Yang pattern pulse, signs and symptoms treatment.2. Different practitioners view points of Shao Yang pattern.3. Yu Gen Chu's interpretation of Shao Yang location, his understanding of Shao Yang disease pathogenesis and development of treatment.4. A summary of Yu's Shao Yang patterns, accompanied patterns and their associated treatment.5. The writer nominates one of Yu's most renown formula, Hao Qin Qing Dan Tang and its modern research and clinical applications thereby highlightingYu's theoretical achievement and its impact on disease treatment. External pathogenic attack of Shao Yang affects the pivot mechanism function characterised by gallbladder fire upsurge which in turn causes channel...
