A Research On Cohen's Thoughts And Methods On The Historiography Of Science

The history of science disciplines within the development has gone internal history, external history and comprehensive history of three stages. In recent years, a comprehensive study of the history of science has become an important trend. Cohen was the representative of the comprehensive study of the history of science who occupied with an important position. Cohen's features of the comprehensive study of the history are:comprehensive topics and ideas of research,context of research methods.a comprehensive study of the content, the context of research methods and the value. Researching Cohen is showing the gradual warming trend. In this paper, through using contextual analysis method I try to explore, collect, collate and analyze Cohen'relevant literature in broad cognitive, science, social, historical context, in order to research Cohen's the thought and methodology of the historiography.The study of Cohen'historiography of science has four significances. First of all, from the research content of view, the expansion of the content of our scientific study of the history has an important significance as reference. At present, in China the research of history of science is from the inside to comprehensive history.from historical, cognitive, science, social context Cohen studied the history of science, and can promote China's study of the history of science, and has great significance to the expansion of the content. Secondly, from the research methods of view,Cohen's context on the historiography of science ideas can promote China's scientific innovation in the history of science. Context on the historiography of science has the objective and comprehensive reflection of the scientific process of development of science and cognitive factors, social factors, historical factors. This interaction embodies the three-dimensinal of the history of science. Third, from the view of improving the quality of researchers of the history of science, Cohen's style of rigorous study of the history of science is our learning example. Through learning Cohen's books and book reviews, we can see the context of this subject characteristics of history of science. This context requires of researchers with the natural science and humanities and social science knowledge, with a rigorous scientific attitude, multilingual capabilities. Fourth, from the subject development perspective, cohen's research reflects cross-integration trend of the philosophy of science and the history of science. Cohen's context method is from the philosophy of science. In short, by Cohen's study, we can see that the study of the history of science is comprehensive and complexity.
