In recent years, with the development of eco-tourism in the nature reserves, contradictions between development and environment, resources as well as conservation increase apparently. As a new way of ecological tourism, the impact of camping tourism on nature reserve can be predicted by reasonable and scientific evaluation, scientific and reasonable development mode will promote the sustainable development of nature reserve. At present, forest ecosystem natural reserves in China accounted for 52.22% of all types of reserves, and camping tourism was mainly developed in the forest natural reserves. Using analytic hierarchy process, frequency statistics method and GIS technique, the evaluation system for environment suitability of camping tourism areas in forest natural reserves was constructed comprehensively and objectively, the microenvironment evaluation system for camping tourism areas was established, the spatial layout of camping tourism areas was studied, finally, Langxiang nature reserve was taken as an example for demonstration and application research. This research aims to find a sustainable development path for the nature reserves, camping tourism, community residents, and natural environment.First of all, the evaluation system for environment suitability of camping tourism areas in forest natural reserves containing 22 index factors was constructed by the frequency statistics and expert consultation in the present study. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to determine the weight of each hierarchy evaluation index. The grading of environment suitability of camping tourism areas in forest natural reserves was classified, which providing theoretical system for evaluation of environment suitability of camping tourism areas in forest natural reserves.Secondly, taking the natural environment, geographical security, infrastructure, internal traffic conditions as the project levels, microenvironment evaluation system for camping tourism areas containing 23 index factors was constructed, the grading of microenvironment in camping tourism areas was classified, the spatial distribution model for environmental conditions of camping tourism areas in forest natural reserves was constructed using GIS technique, the spatial layout for camping tourism areas in forest natural reserves was analyzed. The analysis conditions for spatial layout contained evaluation system, reserve scale (compartment or subcompartment unit), relevant data and GIS statistic analysis.Finally, taking Langxiang nature reserve as a demonstration, the environment suitability and spatial layout for camping tourism areas was studied. The total score of environmental suitability of camping tourism areas in Langxiang nature reserve was 76.1725, fell into grade IV. The camping tourism resource condition (B1) was the advantageous index with a score of 36.0638, indicating the great potential for developing camping tourism programs in Langxiang nature reserve.Based on the data of field survey, research, geographic information and microenvironment evaluation system for camping tourism areas, camping environments of 1067 compartments in experimental area were evaluated, the microenvironment spatial pattern for camping tourism in experimental area was comprehensively judged using GIS technique. With highest score 90, lowest 77 and averge 83.63, the camping tourism environments in experimental area of Langxiang nature reserve had a high integral level, which were all suitable for developing camping tourism. The subcompartments with very high and high camping tourist environmental levels were the areas mostly suitable for developing camping tourism, the total area was 1081.27 hm2, accounting for 12.09% of experimental area.The subcompartments with high camping tourist environmental level in Toudaogou, Xizhelenghe and Qingyuan protection management stations were selected as camping areas, which was 810 hm2 and 9.05% of the total area of the experimental area. GIS technique was used to conduct overlaying of information data, determine the scale and area of camping areas, conduct the functional orientation and planning of camping tourism programs. The functional orientations were agricultural leisure type camping area, forest recuperation type camping area and scenery experience type camping area.Through construction of evaluation system and spatial distribution model for environmental conditions of camping tourism areas, remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) technology were applied in the environment evaluation for camping tourism in natural reserves. The development of camping tourism in Langxiang natural reserve was studied as a demonstration. The evaluation system for environment suitability of camping tourism areas in forest natural reserves was constructed, the method and system for analysis of spatial layout were constructed, which providing guiding significances and practical values for the development and construction of natural reserves.
