Currently, resources flow has become new research perspective and growing point in the field of resource science. Energy is important strategic goods for supporting economic and social development, which is crucial to maintaining stable economic growth and is related to the national economic security. Carbon-based energy, as represented by the coal, oil, natural gas, has been a hot and difficult problem in China’s economic development. Therefore, carbon-Based energy resources flow has become the most active part of resources flow in current domestic. And process analysis of carbon-based energy resource flow is the fundamental research content in the field.From the study of literatures, there is more applied research and less theoretical research on resources flow both at home and abroad. In domestic, there are only some early important literatures about resources flow, writing by interrelated scholars as represented by Cheng Shengkui, Shen Lei, making pathbreaking theoretic discussion. At abroad, theoretical research on resources flow is only of scattered description and is short of systematic normative definition. Therefore, theoretical research and methods study on resources flow needs to follow up with the flourishing of empirical research.System construction and application study of research methods of carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis are preliminary quest to theoretical research and methods study on resources flow. By the research on carbon-based energy resource flow from various disciplines, it is relative prolific about carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis study, which is of flow characteristic study and flow mechanism study of carbon-based energy resource flow. It provide sufficient examples and subject-matters for summary study, contradistinction study, applicability study and integration study of the research methods, which lay a good literature foundation for methods system construction of the fields of study.The main line of the paper is "reference carding-methods study-methods application-methodological instance". This paper focuses on combining theory with practice as well as qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. And it uses general methods of scientific methodology to system construction of research methods of carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis. Structure of the paper can be divided into four parts. Research background, related theories and reference carding, including chapter one and chapter two. Study on application of research methods and their comparative studies, including chapter three to chapter five. System construction and sample analysis of research methods of carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis, including chapter six. Research results and prospects are the seventh chapter.The first chapter is an introduction, which described the background, significance, research methodology, research content, research method, technological line, key problem to be solved and possible creative points of the thesis. Chapter two of the paper is related theories and literature review. Firstly, it makes definitions to carbon-based energy, resources flow and carbon-based energy resources flow. Secondly, it describes the study theory and methodology. Finally, it makes research synthesis and commentary for research methods of carbon-based energy resources flow.From the third chapter to the sixth chapter is the core content of the paper." Chapter three discusses research methods, methods application and method comparison of carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis form geospatial perspectives. Results show that node characteristics study primary includes Gravity model, Moran index, Geary’s C, standard distance, standard deviation ellipse, and so on. According to studies on the methods of analyses can be drawn that those methods can gather marked features of nodes’spatial distribution of regional energy resource flow, and assess the overall pattern of clustering or dispersion. In addition, those methods also can identify statistically significant spatial clustering or spatial outliers. Further analysis, research methods as showed can be divided into three method types, including analysis mode, space clustering and measuring geographic distribution. Channels characteristics study primary includes flat network structure determination index, fractal dimension based on fractal theory, temporal and spatial accessibility analysis, and so on. Those three methods for the study are relative consistency in essence, which are committed to cost analysis of regional energy exchange opportunities. However, those three methods have distinct differences in research perspective. Analysis processes or results of various research methods often render by geographic mapping. Meanwhile, there are research insufficiencies in those three methods. There is existing small scale defects in flat network structure determination index and fractal dimension based on fractal theory. It needs to pay attention to rigors problem of parameter setup as well as pretreatment of the particular modes of transport in methods application. Flow field characteristics study primary includes intuitive analysis method, Huff model, Gravity model, and so on. At present, the existing research results use intuitive analysis method to describe and classify regional flow fields of China’s energy resources, which is single in research method. Therefore, Huff model and the idea of Gravity model are introduced into the study of flow field by the paper, which enrich the energy flow studies perspectives.Chapter four discusses research methods, methods application and method comparison of carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis form multidisciplinary perspectives. Results show that scholars have applied network analysis, the rank-size rule,0-1 planning method, and modelling via time series is firstly introduced to this research area. Methods comparison analysis can be obtained study objectives of related research methods are relatively clear, but no more crossing points. Research methods take flow nodes or nodes system as object of study. However, the perspectives are different. Various research methods come from different disciplines, but all have their own unique characteristics and obvious advantages, and also has their shortcomings.Chapter five discusses research methods, methods application and method comparison of driving mechanism of carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis. Results show that driving mechanism study primary includes relevance analysis, regression analysis, principal component analysis, Weaver-Thomas combination coefficient, W. Alonso model, LMDI model, and so on. Various methods are of the difference in research objectives, research ideas, research results, research features and other aspects. Relevance analysis and regression analysis for the study are relative consistency in essence, both of which directly analyze of the correlation between energy flow and driving factors. The similarity between principal component analysis and Weaver-Thomas combination coefficient is that the research subjects’ impact factors are known. And the difference is that principal component analysis can make a more general summary.Chapter six mainly describes the research methodology, and points out their composition features. Characteristics study of the flow process mainly takes geo-spatial analysis method as the dominant, complemented with other interdisciplinary research methods. Multidisciplinary research on flow characteristics introduces of sociology, economics and operations research ideas, which enriches the study contents. On the study of driving factors of flow process, it uses a variety of econometric methods and models with different research idea, which also belongs to multidisciplinary view of research themes. In addition, method system presents the following characteristics, namely unifying the particularity and universality, coordinating pluralism and inclusiveness of method system, fitting dynamics and openness.Chapter seven is to make the summary of the full text, and draw a series of conclusions, but also points out the shortcomings of research. This paper includes the following innovations. It discusses methods system of carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis for the first time, while it further strengthens the discussion on relevant research methods, which including innovative research ideas and the introduction of new research methods. It enriches and expands the research content of carbon-based energy resource flow process analysis. In addition, case study examples based on the methodology, focusing on empirical research on the movement of natural gas resources in China, make up for the insufficient portion of the study.
