Research On The Embedded Service In The Medical Library

With the rapid development of internet technology, the high fusion of educational ideas and information technology, and the acceleration of the informatization process, information technology has changed the service mode of the library, and impacted on the library service. In the process of higher medical education reform, and educational informatization as well as medical information, all kinds of medical libraries are confronted with unprecedented opportunities and challenges, so embedded services gradually become the innovative service mode which the libraries actively attempt for.Through investigation, analysis, research and review on embedded service in the domestic and foreign medical libraries, we sorted out the related concepts of medical library services and the basic theory of embedded system; discussed the basic principle, innovative service mode, operation mechanism, security system and other contents about embedded medical library services; combined with the research status of domestic and foreign medical library services; analyzed the need and feasibility of carrying out the embedded service in the medical library, and explored how to build the embedded medical library service system from the aspects including embedded service framework, embedded service core content and librarian role, then our purpose is to introduce the embedded library service theory into the field of medical libraries in China, and provide a theoretical basis and practical operation mechanism for medical library in the development of embedded service, so as to promote our country’s medical library service transformation and innovation development.This research has experienced three stages. The first stage is to refine the literature materials. In this stage, we researched, inducted, and sorted out the related literatures on the library core value theory, the five laws of library science theory, library extension services and evidence-based medicine. On the base of a great deal of literature research and case research, we classified and screened the related literatures on embedded service in the domestic and foreign medical libraries, researched on related literatures to absorb and refer to the existing library embedded service theories, and to prepare for the next phase of this study. The second stage is the formation of research ideas. From the beginning of the related concept on the embedded service and the basic theory, we defined the concept and methods of embedded service, and the differences between embedded service and traditional service. From the basic concept, basic theory, we defined the scope of embedded services, knew about the characteristics of embedded service; we not only surveyed the authorized experts and analyzed the existing embedded library services, but also provided valuable theory and operating evidence for embedded service research on medical libraries in order to pave the way for the following research. The third stage is to discuss the research. Based on literature and theory research, we further studied the related literature and service cases; combined with service practice, we analyzed, studied and sorted out three types of embedded service model, but also respectively discussed the service mode, service role, service method and service effect. To solve development difficulties of medical libraries and improve the service of medical libraries, we explored the mechanism of embedded service in medical library and put forward different types of the embedded service mode and operation mechanism.In this study, the full text is divided into eight chapters. According to the sequence of the research background and meaning, the domestic and foreign research review, the theoretical foundation for the research, the embedded service demand analysis, the embedded service design, the case study, the research on the operating mechanism, we come to the conclusions and prospects for research. By using the survey methods, such as literature research, website method, comparative study method, expert interview method, questionnaire survey method, case study method, we not only explore the necessity and feasibility of embedded services in medical libraries, but also discuss the construction and operation mechanism of the embedded service mode in medical libraries.This study draws three conclusions:(1) The embedded service mode in medical libraries is based on demand and development; embedded service theory in medical libraries has higher necessity and feasibility. With the wide application of network information technology and the rapid development, the progress of medical care and medical education, parts of traditional library services have been abandoned by readers; the library embedded service is mostly welcomed by the readers as an innovative service mode; this mode of service will further promote the practice of library service and make the library service obtain a new growth point.(2) The embedded service mode in medical libraries is a kind of knowledgeable service whose constituent elements is highly integrated; embedded service is not only upgrading the traditional library services, but also is the extension and expansion of the library function. The essence of embedded service in medical libraries is knowledgeable service highly integrated with library literature information resource, library services, network, information technology and talents. In the mode of embedded service, "The library is a growing organism".(3) Personalized embedded service model is the trend of library service in the future; in the embedded service mode, the library productivity can be improved, and the new occupational scope of the librarians will be expanded. Embedded service model is the important service mode which produces libraries’ new productivity, and enhances the service initiatives for the users; these mark the improvement of library service ability and service value.Two innovations of this study are as follows:(1) We introduced the foreign theory on the embedded library services into the field of medical libraries, and applied the research content specifically to the service model and running mechanism, which is a kind of development and innovation of embedded services theory in foreign library, and opens up a new paradigm for embedded service of medical libraries in China.(2) On the base of the integration with embedded service connotation, elements, characteristics, service mode and service mechanism in foreign medical libraries, we construct contents and methods about embedded service basic principle, operating mechanism, from the micro perspective, we researched the content of principle, service mode, operation mechanism and security system of the embedded service in medical library, which provides a new theoretical basis and feasibility of operating mechanism for the practice of embedded service of medical libraries in China.The embedded service mode and operation mechanism in this study solve the theoretical basis and operating guide about embedded service in the medical libraries. This study can clarify the related concepts from the theory, know about process and the user’s cooperation and division from the operation; this study comprehensively discusses how to carry out the embedded service in medical libraries by the study on different types of embedded service mode and its operating mechanism and security system. The operating mechanism can operate and has certain application value.
