This study consists of four parts. In the first part, a perioral force measurement system has been developed. It's about the manufacture of resistance strain gauge transducer, the composing instruments and the method of the perioral force measurement. The results of the study indicate as follows:1. The system established in this study has developed an advanced method to measure the lip, cheek and tongue pressure action upon teeth. It can provide multifunction and multichannel measurement of small pressure. The soft tissue pressure acting upon the teeth and denture can be measured by this transducer system.2. The transducer developed in this study is of small thickness and dimensions , it has high sensitivity, adequate water-prooffunction and quick frequency response. It proves adequate to the measurement of perioral force after being tested in the mouth of subjects.3. The measurement data are analyzed by the DAS-820B Data Fast Analysis Instrument and the computer in this system therefore it is faster than before.4. The error caused by the transducer destoryed in the mouth can be avoided because the transducers are calibrated before and after perioral force measurenent. In the second part of this experiment, The transducer system was used to measure the forces excerted on the normal occlusion by the lips, cheeks, and tongue. Sixty volunteers were measured. The results of measurement were analyzed and eight main conclusions were obtained as follows.1. It has obtained the series means and standard deviations of perioral forces of normal occlusion of Chinese. The force was measured on interdental space of central incisors, premolars, molars in dental arch;labical, buccal and lingual side while the mouth was resting in the state of swallowing chewing and pronuncing M. These data have provided the basic data of perioral forces within Chinese normal occlusion. It is very valuable for the further research of the relationship between the perioral force and dental arch form.2. The results of measurement show that the intra-individual variations of the perioral forces are large. So the measurement values only represent the distribution level of perioral forces. It is adequate to compare the forces distribution among the different mouth states and different areas of dental arch.3. The perioral force is not related with the age and sex. For the symmetry...
