| Theoretical ResearchBased on ancient constitution theory of traditional Chinese medicine which are "pure yang ", " juvenile Yin-Yang ", " body of Shao Yang ", " inadequate or adequate of five Zang-organs ". This study tried to explain physical characteristics of children’s constitution of TCM, which are juvenile, changeable, and focusing on Yang, hoping to provide references for researches on children’s constitutions of TCM.First, using CNKI.com, we collected documents of Chinese Constitution classification and clinical epidemiology. So we proved the existence of 9 constitutions of TCM in children. Second, we searched for documents with "children" and "Chinese medicine", "constitution" as their theme. We got 423 documents and chose 21 of them. By calculating the frequency of characteristics involved, we finished the formulation of characteristics of children’s constitution of TCM.Scale ResearchPurpose:Since the standard of TCM Constitution classification and judgment published by the China Association of traditional Chinese medicine on April 9,2009, it has been applied by 103 "treating before diseases performed" Application Centers from the 30 provinces, municipalities (autonomous region). However, the standard is aimed at people aged 15-60. Children’s physical characteristics are different from that of adult body, coupled with the limits of children’s ability to understand language, so the existing edition questionnaire of TCM constitution is not very suitable for the majority of children. In order to make the standard of TCM Constitution classification and judgment further improved, we need to amend the children’s Edition of TCM constitution questionnaire. Considered children’s physical characteristics of TCM constitution and the ability to understand the subtests, my tutor took the opinion that children aged 0-1,1-6,7-14 should have different TCM constitution questionnaires. This project intended to formulate questionnaire of TCM constitution for children aged 7-14.Having the 7-14 aged children’s version of the scale included, the TCM Constitution classification and identification standards would be better applied by pediatricians and scientific researchers. It will provide standards to identify children’s constitution types, and provide services to assess the health status of our children.Methods:1 Considered the characteristics of TCM constitution for 7-14 aged children and their study and life style, we formulate the subtests of questionnaire of TCM constitution for 7-14 aged children. Based on the 2009 edition questionnaire, we also consulted the ancient pediatric books and the documents to formulate the new questionnaire.2 We did 2 investigations using the questionnaire of TCM constitution, including children who live in city proper and live in the suburbs. There were 257 children in the first investigation, while 323 children in the second investigation. We used the data of 2 investigations to do the project analysis, the reliability and validity tests, and then reformulate the subtests.3 In the course of investigation, we arranged interviews with some children, trying to get to know how’s the children’s understanding, the applicability of the subtests, and if there is some misunderstood. The results would help us to reformulate the subtests. Results:1 First edition questionnaire includes 9 subscales and 60 subtests. Qi-deficiency subscale has 8 subtests; Yang-deficiency subscale has 8 subtests, Yin-deficiency subscale has 6 subtests; Phlegm-wetness subscale has 8 subtests; Wetness-heat subscale has 6 subtests; Blood-stasis subscale has 7 subtests; Qi-depression subscale has 7 subtests; Special constitution subscale has 7 subtests; And Pinghe subscale has 8 subtests, and 5 of them are the same as unbalanced subscales, which need to be back-linked-scored;2 First edition questionnaire shows that subtest 3,7,12,26,29,35,37,55,58,60 are not good enough for the item analysis; subtest 2,7,12,13,19,28,37,40,56,60 are not good enough for factor analysis; the internal consistency coefficient of the questionnaire is 0.887, which shows ideal reliability. The internal consistency coefficient of Qi-deficiency subscale, Yang-deficiency subscale, Yin-deficiency subscale, Phlegm-wetness subscale, Wetness-heat subscale, Blood-stasis subscale, Qi-depression subscale, and Pinghe subscale are 0.637,0.742, 0.715,0.629,0.625,0.629,0.826,0.615,0.684;3 Second edition questionnaire includes 9 subscales and 51 subtests. Qi-deficiency subscale has 7 subtests; Yang-deficiency subscale has 6 subtests, Yin-deficiency subscale has 5 subtests; Phlegm-wetness subscale has 7 subtests; Wetness-heat subscale has 5 subtests; Blood-stasis subscale has 6 subtests; Qi-depression subscale has 7 subtests; Special constitution subscale has 6 subtests; And Pinghe subscale has 6 subtests, and 4 of them are the same as unbalanced subscales, which need to be back-linked-scored;4 Second edition questionnaire shows that subtest 6,23,24,25 are not good enough for the item analysis; subtest 6,11 are not good enough for factor analysis; the internal consistency coefficient of the questionnaire is 0.865, which shows ideal reliability. The internal consistency coefficient of Qi-deficiency subscale, Yang-deficiency subscale, Yin-deficiency subscale, Phlegm-wetness subscale, Wetness-heat subscale, Blood-stasis subscale, Qi-depression subscale, and Pinghe subscale are 0.632,0.713,0.642,0.600,0.661, 0.622,0.774,0.634,0.601.Conclusion:1 The final version of the 7-14 year-old questionnaire of TCM constitution includes 9 subscales and 51 subtests. There are 5 back-linked-scored subtests in Pinghe-constitution scale;2 Via two tests and modifications, The questionnaire has high reliability and validity. In accordance with the constitution of children aged 7-14, suitable for the age group, the questionnaire can be used as an effective tool for measuring children’s constitution and promoted.
