The Woman Menopause Syndrome is one kind of typical psychological and physiological disease. In recent years the incidence of the disease ascends year by year. It greatly affect the living quality of Menopause women. Guided by the characteristic theory of TCM, it has unique comprehension for psychological disease. TCM considers psychology part as glad, angry, sad, consideration, dread, fright. Psychological actions are the functions of internal organ of the body in general. When internal organ of the body in general have ill change, those directly influence human psychology movement which changes correspondingly. A portion of Menopause women are agitated, sleepless, suspicious, depressed, or even have unpredictable temper. Those makes Menopause women suffer a lot. But so far, people haven't had the plain psychology concept of TCM. This not only hinders Menopause patients from diagnosing and treatment, but also blocks the further development of the TCM. As the science develops, technology progresses, people already try to find the measurement of psychology feature such as, perception, thought, imagination, sentiments, character and so on. At present, internationally, there has not yet established the psychology Fell scale of TCM, related to psychology study. Due to TCM psychology theory has major difference to modern psychology. It would be easier to reflect the emotional statusof Menopause women from TCM point of view and evaluate the curative effect of TCM psychological treatment and embody the character of TCM integration of psychology and physiology by establishing Menopause Fell scale of TCM through the orientating TCM psychology concept. And this is one of the TCM psychology study so far. Objective(1) Establishing Fell scale of TCM on the basis of TCM theory.(2) Evaluating the reliability and validity of Fell scale of TCM andmodifying and improving by survey. Hypothesis(1) Fell scale of TCM is based on TCM theory.(2) Fell scale of TCM has better reliability validity. DesignrCross-sectional survey.Setting:Community of Guangzhou, Out-patient or inpatient of Gynaecology-department of Guangdong provincial hospital of TCM. ParticipantsConducting the survey on 258 participants from Sep, 2003 to Oct, 2004.(1) Fitting standard: Menopause women between age 41 to 55.(2) Excluding standard: Those who was unable or unwilling to take part in the survey due to any reason.(3) Drop-out principles: Due to any reason those who could not finish filling in the survey would be considered voluntarily drop out.Main Outcome Measures(1) Preliminary establishment of Fell scale of TCM is through a serious strict steps such as orientating concept of Fell scale of TCM, operation definition, forming details, analysis, and sifting out.(2) Conducting survey on participants and keeping track of their general data.(3) Making use of the 258 samples with same quality to modify and improve Fell scale of TCM and valuating reliability and validity by applying statistics methods integrating with TCM professional knowledge. Results(1) Responding rate is 98.84%. Surveying time is about 20 to 25 minutes.(2) By applying statistics methods, such as details answer spread inspection, differentiating modulus, detail-ledger relationship, internal test and factor analysis, sifting out the details. 25 details met the criteria.(3) Analyzed reserved details by applying factor analysis and abstracted 4 factors, considered Fell scale of TC of menopause women formed by 4 emotions such as angry> sad-, consideration^ dread.(4) The split-half reliability of Fell scale of TC of menopause women was 0.7236. Internal reliability: Fell scale of TCM was 0.9136. emotional change of angry was 0. 88330. the motional change of sad was 0.8869. emotional change of consideration was 0.8682. emotional change of dread was 0. 8890.(5) The organization progress of Fell scale of TC of menopause women is rational. It has better content validity and surface validity. Detail-ledger relationship set by statistics analysis exists in the relating relationship and logical relationship which we anticipated. For The Fell scale of TCM of Woman Menopause Syndrome patients, the result has remarkable meaning, P<0. 05.Conclusions(1) Responding rate is 98.84%. Surveying time is about 20 to 25 minutes.
