High Profit Management And Participatory Development Of Phyllostachys Pubescens Plantation In Zhejiang And Fujian Mountainous Areas

Phyllostachys pubescens distributes the most widely and covers the most area among bamboos in China, and has high economic and ecological values. This program was based on case study that carried out in a major bamboo plantation area, Zhejiang and Fujian mountain area. Directional Mao bamboo cultivation technology and participatory development mechanism were studied by the participatory research method. The main results are the following. 1. The major targets of bamboo cultivation industry were analyzed based on PPRA investigation. While optimizing the distribution of bamboo cultivation area and improving the forestry infrastructure, it should be encouraged to develop high efficient bamboo plantation management, to strengthen forestry management training and generalization, to establish a mew mechanism to encourage peasants to attend programs, and to strengthen the power of the executive. 2. The key technologies, including the fertilization management model of Mao bamboo shoot plantation, optimizing bamboo plantation structure, water management, and the pick of winter shoot, were studied and the model designing of Mao bamboo shoot plantation management was constructed by the peasant participant method. The production value of 2488.5 yuan per 667m2 per year was obtained in the high efficient model management base, and the average labor payoff was 77.6%. 3. The conception and the system innovations of bamboo industry development by the way of participation were studied. The system support for bamboo plantation development can be obtained by the construction of mechanism and the improvement for the regional development. 4. The bamboo industry technology generalization in Zhejiang and Fujian mountain area was a mechanism "from top to bottom", and the operating system was embodied as the following:â‘ It was guided by technology and technicians were the principal body; â‘¡The choice of technology and decision-making was "from top to bottom";â‘¢The discontinuity between researcher, technology generalization men and peasants was formed by the sources of technology and conditions. 5. The two-step-flow model of forestry technology was studied and the working stage of forestry technology generalization was construction firstly. The new technology generalization mechanism of participation, which confers peasants the power to select technology and participate indecision-making, can be obtained by the two-step-flow of technology, "ladder designing "of technology, perfecting the culture character of new technology, building and perfecting program management and organization of technology generalization, peasants being the main management body, and assistance of experts.
