This dissertation studied the bamboo(Phyllostachys pubescens) which grow up in the northeast and southwest on the same altitudes.The diameter,thickness, length,dry shrinkage,density,compressive strength parallel to the grain,MOR, MOE have been measured.These indexs have been compared and analysed.The results are:(1)With the increasing length of radial section,the thickness and the diameter reduced,but the length of bamboo knuee increased.The average length, thickness and diameter of bamboo knuee which grow up in the northeast and southwest are:28.935cm,24.657cm,0.77cm,0.675cm,8.092cm and 7.125cm. The numerical value reduced to:14.785%,14.074%and 13.6%.In the 0.05 level the t test reveals that the difference is nonsignificant.(2)The index of volume dry shrinkage of the bamboo of the which grow up in the southwest is higher than that of the bamboo in the northeast.The volume dry shrinkage bamboo in the southwest and in the northeast are:18.03%, 20.393%.The volume air seasoning shrinkage are:8.339%,8.856%.The radial dry shrinkage are:9.513%,10.885%.The radial air seasoning shrinkage are: 3.765%,4.897%.The tangential dry shrinkage are:8.057%,9.004%.The tangential air seasoning shrinkage are:2.758%,3.367%.In the 0.05 level the t test reveals that the difference is significant except for the volume air seasoning shrinkage.(3) With the length of the bamboo knuee increased,the air seasoning density and the basic density increased.The basic density of the bamboo in the southwest and in the northeast are:0.715g/cm~3,0.72g/cm~3.The air seasoning density are:0.827 g/cm~3,0.835g/cm~3.In the 0.05 level the t test reveals that the difference is nonsignificant.(4)The compressive strength parallel to the grain of the bamboo in the southwest and in the northeast are:59.840MPa,56.206MPa.The MOR are: 196.293MPa,179.918MPa.The MOE are:11934.07MPa,11244.71MPa.The effect of the different grade on the compressive strength parallel to grain is nonsignificant.But The effects of the different grade on the MOR is significant. In the 0.05 level the t test reveals that the difference is significant.The effects of the different grade on the MOE is nonsignificant,In the 0.05 level the t test reveals that the difference is significant.
