The important problem has been paid attention to managing the safety of nuclear power plants all through. Many efficient studies have been done in nuclear energy. One of the research areas has been focused on operators'response to abnormal events and emergency situations.At present Emergency Operating Procedures(EOP) used in Chinese nuclear power plants are based on events, these procedures have shortcomings. Major countries which have nuclear power plants are developing the Symptom-oriented Emergency Operating Procedures. The application of intelligent technologies has become the current of operating procedures system.The research status of emergency operating procedures of foreign countries and China are analyzed in this paper, the mechanism and technology of computerized procedures are investigated by comprehensive utilization of nuclear power operation theory and artificial intelligence. An elementary Computerized Operating Procedures System (COPS) for the operation of NPP is developed, which earns theoretical significance and practical value. The most work includes:(1) The integrated project of exploiting COPS is presented in this paper after analyzing the characteristics of operating process of NPP, the scheme of hardware design and selective software is brought forward to provide the foundation of ensuring the reliability of COPS.(2) The method for diagnosing typical abnormal symptoms of operation process is investigated, the fuzzy diagnosis strategy of abnormities of safety functions is put forward, the experience of experts on diagnosing and providing procedures are summarized to working as the dependence of control decision of computer.(3) The six safety functions such as water inventory, sub-criticality, the power removal, the SGs integrity, the SGs water inventory, the containment integrity of operating process are used to judge the situation of operating process, the detected variables for judging each safety function are chosen depend on experiences of experts and conditions of monitoring situation.(4) The Vxworks system and C++ language are used to programming. The programme is debugged on simulator and the computerized presentation of procedures implemented. Finally the results of experiments are analysed and discussed.The programme achieves the prospective functions by experiments. COPS can provide corresponding procedures according to the symptoms of accidents, the availability of using the procedures and reliability of managing events are increased.(5) COPS can provide the storage and displaying of Normal Operating Procedures and EOP and further information than text procedures. The limitations of text procedures are hurdled by several information presentation elements. The information of procedures, clew and alarms can be provided by color graph window. The combination of operation state charts and procedures offer the feedback of operation to operators and help operators to comprehend the whole state of NPP.The contents and conclusions of this paper have theoretic significance and practical value to improving NPP's operation safety.
