Alone with this situation, in virtue of the Internet which spreaded all over the world, global culture makes the culture patterns and the life styles which varied with the nations been getting trend to the same. It will make the characters of ethnical and local culture eliminated. On the other hand, this tendency stimulates the arousal of the selfconsciousness of ethnical and local culture. The selfconsciousness comes from the recognition, that is the global culture be a combination of kinds of local culture, not a one kind of culture.Ethnical and local culture purpose on environment-build intention leads the places held their unique culture character. The culture character shows its identity not only in the idea of place, the construction of place, the people's behavior occur in the place and the style of place, but also on the trend of value towards the development of environment-build. Focusing the study on the culture characters of place, the dissertation try to found a method to cognize them. Based on the method, to find the essential factor from the complex others which relating to the environment-build. The types of the culture character of place can be cognized from the coherece of the style and the idea of the place.In the first section of the dissertation, the culture character being the value and phenomenon of environment-build is discoursed upon. Being the "Gene" of the environment-build intention, the culture character changes with the evolution of ethnical and local culture and being the key factor of the development of place. Refer to the foregone study of place, the dissertation discusses the ethnical and local culture characters of place and concludes the types of them.The second section of the dissertation, by the study on the basic factor and the composing rule and the evolving mode of culture character and the tradition influence on it, the conclusion of this section is that the purpose of ethnical and local culture is the key determinative of the construction of culture character. At present and future, reconstruction the culture character of place with the selfconsciousness of creation, the aim is the environment-build intention of ethnical and local developing at.The third section of the dissertion, by study on the declining phenomenon of built place, the research concentrates on analysing the causes, estimating the value and feasibility of the renewal. Dazhao Temple located at Lasa, Tibet, and Huacheng Temple located at Jiuhua town, this two religionary places are taken as a case for the contrast. The purpose of research is to find a way to revival the culture character of Huacheng Temple. Another case, Luxun Historic Block which located at Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, the purpose of the research is to cognize the local environment-build intention and its effects on the development of the city and the block which is most important part of the city. Take Huacheng Temple and Luxun Historic Block been the practical subject, the research applies its ultimateness to the subject planning and designing.
