As a main service window to the society, the railway passenger station is mainly used to perform the departure, arrival, passing and other technical operations of passenger trains. In the large railway passenger station, in order to meet the need of on-line technical operations of the passenger train and its stock, the throat routes, receiving and departure tracks, servicing tracks and connecting lines should be laid out complicatedly, and the receiving and departure tracks need to be arranged with flexibility. Therefore, how to organize various kinds of technical operations of different passenger trains in the station and provide more satisfying service to passengers has become a transportation system engineering issue. To make deep research on this problem will help to improve the efficiency of railway passenger transportation as well as the economical and social benefits, which will be of great significance to the sustainable development of railway transportation. With the development of our country's economy, the speed and the density of trains on major railway lines have been increased gradually, which brings more and more difficulties in organizing the technical operations in railway station, including making reasonable use of existing facilities, playing the best ability of every facility in the station, finishing the transport mission, keeping a certain backup of the facility capability to ensure the normal running in case of facility repair and unexpected events. In this dissertation, some urgent problems were listed which are faced by the railway organizers and the decision-makers:1) How to make reasonable use of existing facilities to serve the society in the most efficient way; 2) To passenger stations on the newly-built lines, how to arrange these transportation facilities to meet the transportation demand; 3) In order to meet the requirement of passengers'travel demand, the stations usually do regulation of train running. After that, how to quickly ascertain the capability of the fixed facilities and their utilization rates in the stations.Considering the three needs above, the method of generating passenger trains in the passenger station was studied, which could generate the arrival and departure time of each train in the passenger station, so the fluctuation of train running can be reflected; An optimization model of the utilization of the receiving and departure tracks in the passenger station as well as an optimization model of arranging the technical operation routes in the throat area of the passenger station was constructed and the corresponding algorithms were designed, which could develop the utilization plan of the receiving and departure tracks and the arrangement scheme of the throat routes; The utilization rate and the carrying capacity of the receiving and departure tracks and the facilities in the throat area were used to evaluate the results of these models. The main content of this dissertation is as follows:(1) The procedure of technical operation of existing passenger stations was analyzed. The whole procedure of technical operations for different passenger trains from entering the system to leaving the system was disassembled according to different operation steps, which would be assembled into operation sequences for all kinds of passenger trains. In detail, all kinds of plans of technical operations, as well as their content and compilation basis, and the coordination methods for all other operations in the passenger stations were analyzed. All these are the premise and basis of the following chapters.(2) The generation problem of the passenger trains in the passenger station system was studied. A random method to generate a real passenger train flow meeting given requirements in the arrival system was advanced. A solution method was designed to determine the number of passenger trains, each train's type, grade, location and time when it arrives at the system. This method could assure the consistency between the generated system and the real system in the component ratio of passenger trains of different grades, the quantity ratio of passenger trains at different locations, and the interval arrival time of each passenger train.(3) A model of the utilization of the receiving and departure tracks in the passenger station was constructed and the corresponding algorithm was designed. On the basis of analyzing the feature, principle and influencing factors of utilizing the receiving and departure tracks in passenger stations, the problem was divided into three sub-problems:to assure the safety and technical operations of trains, to be convenient for passengers, to make effective use of various train operation equipment in passenger stations. An optimization model of utilizing the receiving and departure track was built and a branch and bound algorithm was deigned.(4) An optimization model of arranging the technical operation routes in the throat area of the passenger station was constructed and a corresponding algorithm was designed. The reasonable arrangement of the technical operation routes in the throat area of the passenger stations is necessary to ensure train operation safety and improve the efficiency of train operation. The pattern of route arrangement has direct influences on the efficiency of receiving and dispatching trains and the carrying capacity of the station. An optimization model of arranging the technical operation routes in the throat area of the passenger station was constructed. Aiming at helping to arrange the subsequent routes and abiding by the rule of arranging routes according to the operation sequence, two optimization methods to separately gain maximum parallel routes and maximum probability routes in the throat area were designed to solve this model. An example was used to explain the algorithm procedure.(5) The evaluation problem of the optimization model of the utilization of the receiving and departure tracks in the passenger station and the optimization model of arranging the technical operation routes in the throat area of the passenger station was investigated. The utilization rate and the carrying capacity of the receiving and departure tracks and the facilities in the throat area were calculated using the results of the two models, which were proved to be accordant with the real situation. At the end of this dissertation, the research work and the major results were summarized. Some topics were put forward for future research.
