To counter the weaknesses of present geomorphologic classifications, the article puts forward the pivotal classification of geomorphologic types. Pivotal classification is a kind of classification methods that the basic geomorphologic types are classified by taking the relative altitude as a main element and the absolute altitude as a sub element, and the grade system of geomorphologic classification is classified by taking the basic geomorphologic types and cause of formation types as a main element and the other factors as a sub element. This method there is functions for popularizing and utilizing the geomorphologic knowledge in production, unifiing the concepts of geomorphologic types. The main contents are:1. Pivotal classification of basic geomorphologic types. According to the fact that present geomorphologic classifications is can not meat the idea of people observing the mountains of high and low in existing geomorphologic classification, the paper puts forward and studies the method of taking the relative altitude as a main element and the absolute altitude as a sub element. It is favorable to popularize and utilize the geomorphologic knowledge in production; and it is far reaching significance for using it in the military affairs.2. To Study some Technical Problems about Dividing Geomorphologic Types of Mountains. In science research and productory practice, we always meet the problems that using a kind of abstract system of geomorphologic classification to divide the geomorphologic types of specific area, and we always meet many technical problems to be solved. Just as using what kind of system of geomorphologic classification; the starting point of the relative altitude is being selected in where; how many starting points are selected are the best etc. For a mountain which extending a thousand, it is separated for sections or not? If the answer is ok, we how separated a mountain in length and breadth. All these problems are researched in this article.At present, there are many methods of geomorphologic classification. Using which kinds of methods, it is concerned the result of the classification is good or bad. After summarized geomorphologic classification systems in home and abroad, the article suggest to using subject and object classification of geomorphologic types.It is found after research that how large low and flat areas are taken as stating point in map of how large scales have not been researched at present. Directing this problem, the article pronounced a method, which adapts to all scales mats to determine starting point-"area method of deciding starting point".The article pronounced a method to divide mountain in length and breadth.
