ObjectiveIn this study,by comparing the difference of efficacy and safety between acupoint catgut embedding combined with TCM periodic therapy and oral western medicine in treating primary dysmenorrhea, the better choice and idea of clinical treatment of primary dysmenorrhea were discussed.MethodsUsing random number table,a total of 64 patients with primary dysmenorrhea, which were randomly divided into two groups and each group included 32 cases, were included according to the diagnostic criteria and inclusion criteria of this subject. In the treatment group, the embedment therapy was applied three times during the menstrual cycle, one treatment 3-5 days before menstruation, one treatment 13-15 days before menstruation and one treatment 3 days after menstrual clean. In the control group, the patients began to take ibuprofen sustained-release capsules orally 1 day before menstruation until pain was relieved. In both groups, the treatment of one menstrual cycle was one course of treatment and all required a continuous 3 period of treatment and follow-up visit in the third months after the treatment. The scores of dysmenorrhea symptoms,VAS and CMSS were compared between the two group before the treatment, after three course of treatment and on the third month after cessation of treatment.Meanwhile the short-term and long-term efficacy were compared between the two groups.Results1.After three courses of treatment and on the third month after cessation of treatment, the scores of dysmenorrhea symptoms,VAS and CMSS were lower than before the treatment. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).It was proved that the both therapy can effectively alleviate dysmenorrhea symptoms and reduce the duration and pain degree of primary dysmenorrhea symptoms.2.After three courses of treatment and on the third month after cessation of treatment, the scores of dysmenorrhea symptoms,VAS and CMSS in treatment group were much lower than in the control group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).It was indicated that the acupoint catgut embedding combined with TCM periodic therapy is better than.oral ibuprofen in relieving primary dysmenorrhea symptoms and reducing the duration and pain degree of dysmenorrhea symptoms.3.According to the score of dysmenorrhea symptoms, the short-term and long-term efficacy was evaluated respectively after three courses of treatment and on the third month after cessation of treatment. The short-term total effective rate of the treatment group was 90.00%,which was better than the control group of 86.67%,while the long-term total effective rate of the treatment group was 80.00%,which was better than the control group of 66.67%.The above groups had statistically significant difference(P<0.05),suggesting that the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea with acupoint catgut embedment periodic therapy is better than oral ibuprofen not just in short-term efficacy, but also in long-term efficacy.ConclusionThe acupoint catgut embedding periodic therapy and oral ibuprofen are all effective treatment for primary dysmenorrhea. The acupoint catgut embedding combined with TCM periodic therapy, which had better short-term and long-term efficacy and was worthy of clinical promotion, was better than oral ibuprofen in improving dysmenorrhea symptoms and reducing the duration and pain of dysmenorrhea symptoms.
