At the beginning of the 21st century,almost cities in China were building their own landmarks,such as the "big pants" of CCTV and the "waistline" of Guangzhou.The emerging of landmark media gradually diverted residents'attention to old landmark buildings.The old clock tower,once the landmark building,seems to have been submerged in many tall buildings.Takes the reports on the local newspapers and relevant network data about the Big Clock Tower in Hefei as research objects,we hope to understand:The Big Clock Tower that entered the Hefei city in the early years of reform and opening up,as a medium,how to embed and affect people's daily life practices from both dimensions of time and space?How Linked to urban modernity?When the city center of the clock tower gradually loses its advantage,does the connection with urban modernity still exist?Does its role change?This article believes that in the "small town" period,the Hefei Big Clock Tower in the old city occupied the center of the city.The composition of the sound landscape,from the two aspects of modernity:time and space,takes part in the construction of urban modernity.On the one hand,the hourly chime of the bells influences the life and work of the residents and enhances the residents'concept of modern time.On the other hand,the radiation of bells' characterizes the urban space,which influences people's perception of urban space and builds an individual's sense of place.The circulation of "Dongfanghong" and "Beijing time*point whole",established the residents of national awareness.However,with the rise of the second urban construction of Hefei in the late 1990s,high-tech development zones,economic development zones,and new station comprehensive development experimental zones were successively completed,and the urban spatial structure of Hefei began to expand.In 2003,the development of urban construction,in order.to carry out the "big city"construction,Hefei city government has established "1331" and "141" urban space development strategy.The spatial pattern of urban space in Hefei hasevolved from a single-centric fan-like structure to a multi-center cluster model.The changes in the spatial structure of the city make the advantages of the Clock Tower located in the center of the city gradually disappear,and the expansion of the administrative area makes the scope of the bell radiation limited.At the same time,the bells are no longer able to adapt to the new rhythm of the city's life.The bells that used to arrange daily life in practice were seen as noise by some people.The Clock Tower lost its secular purpose.With the change of urban spatial form,the Big Clock Tower has become increasingly limited in its role in the establishment and maintenance of national consciousness and sense of place.At the same time,the development of new Hefei' s connection to space is no longer limited to the sense of national consciousness and local sense.Establish and maintain,and gradually move toward globalization and internationalization.From the "little city livable" to the "innovative capital with international influence","the sub-center of the world-class urban group in the Yangtze River Delta" and the "Great Lake City,innovative highland",urban positioning,the Big Clock Tower cannot take on new intermediary roles.Gradually become Hefei people's"remembered" landmark buildings.With the advent of cyberspace,microblogging bells recreated the meaning of the Clock Tower.Through the dialect of local dialects,a new sense of place condenses.However,the co-participating text bells dispel the hegemonic power of the Clock Tower in space and everyone,cyberspace.Personality and selectivity have resisted the charm of the original clock tower.This reinvention of the meaning of cyberspace is ultimately fragmented and dispelled.At the request of the general public,finally on January 16th,2018,the Hefei Big Clock Tower clocks began to walk normally,and the entire time of the stop of the years and the Oriental Red Bell also resumed.But three years of bell breaks,people have become accustomed to life without bells,and the construction of bells has become less visible.The restoration of bells is more of a symbol of ritualism from the perspective of awakening urban memory.On May 14,2018,the Hefei Municipal Government passed the "List of the First Historic Buildings in Hefei City District," and 16 historical buildings(structures)will be listed for protection.The Grand Clock Tower will become a protected historic building.
