Objectives:To construct clinical nurse specialist' competence-based program for master of nursing specialist(MNS)which combined with the training of clinical nurse specialist in China.It would be applied as the guideline for MNS programs of China.Methods:1.Based on the literature review,we explored the existing research findings on the MNS programs in China,and the concepts of master of nursing specialist,clinical nurse specialist,competences,and others.2.Use comparative method to compare the the basis of education,expectations,curricula,curriculum implementation and assessments of America and China,to put forward suggestions for the improvement of MNS programs in China.3.Based on the theoretical study,literature review,and quality interview,we developed the framework of the program for master of nursing specialist(MNS)which combined with the training of clinical nurse specialist.Focused experts panel meeting were conducted to discuss and identify the framework.4.Through content analysis and quality interview,we developed the draft of competence standards for clinical nurse specialist.The draft was consulted,identified and devised with using Delphi technique.5.The draft of the program for master of nursing specialist(MNS)was constructed through literature review.With 15 experts involved in the consultation,we discussed and devised the contents of program including learning expectations,curricula,clinical experiences and assessments,and reached consensus on the final program.Results:1.The concepts of master of nursing specialist,clinical nurse specialist,competences,and others were defined.The existing research findings on the MNS programs in China were reviewed.2.Through comparing the programs for master of nursing in America and China,we obtained the similarities and the differences in the basis of education,expectations,curricula,curriculum implementation and assessments.In conclusion,we put forward the following suggestions: identify expectations based on the competencies of clinical nurse specialist;improve curriculum to realize competency based expectations;optimize implementation of curriculum;establish the assessment standard of authentic performance.3.According to the input-environment-outputs framework of high education,Taxonomy of education objectives,situation learning theory,and the framework of authentic assessment,based on conducting the quality interview we formulated the framework of master of nursing specialist(MNS)which combined withthe training of clinical nurse specialist in China.And test and devise the framework throughand focused experts panel meeting.4.Throngh content analysis,quality interview and Delphi technique,the competence standards of clinical nurse specialists were established,to offer the base for constructing the draft of the program for master of nursing specialist5.Based on the competence standards of clinical nurse specialists,we constructed the draft of the program for master of nursing specialist.Through consulting with 15 experts,we developed the final program,which were composed of expectations,curricula,clinical experiences and assessments.Conclusions:1.In this study,we compare the the basis of education,expectations,curricula,curriculum implementation and assessments of America and China,and put forward suggestions for the improvement of MNS programs in China.2.We initiatively developed the framework of master of nursing specialist(MNS)which combined with the training of clinical nurse specialist in China,which provide instruments and tools for the collaboration between colleges and clinical areas.3.The competence standards of clinical nurse specialists were involved in the study of programs of graduate education in nursing for the first time.Based the competence standards,we constructed the program for master of nursing specialist,including expectations,curricula,clinical experiences and assessments.The program focused on the related clinical roles and emphasized the characters of MNS.It was flexible,reasonable and practical,and gave the scientific basis of the education of master of nursing specialist.4.Attentions should be paid on several problems,such as the selection of training agency,collaboration between university and training agency.In addition,further policies should be constructed,such as constructing the pairing educational policies and getting the support of professional organizations.
