With the promotion and application of digital technology in the field of prosthodontics, it is possible to develop digital diagnosis and treatment technology aimed at complete denture. The digital design and manufacture of complete denture will not only improve the efficiency of the fabrication of complete denture, but also substantially increase the accuracy of it, which can provide superior treatment for the patient. It is inevitable to replace the traditional technology of complete denture fabrication with digital technology. Base on the traits of complete denture fabrication, a method of digital complete denture design is proposed. The main contents of the research are as follows:(1) A method of complete denture tooth-arrangement based on feature-driven is proposed. At first, the features on the artificial teeth are extracted and a tooth-database based on XML file is set up. Oral features were also extracted and were used to determine the positions of the teeth according to the rules of oral medicine. To take control of the gaps between the adjacent teeth, collision test based on hierarchical bounding volume is taken. The dentition of complete denture could be gotten through this method.(2) Since the occlusion of the dentition obtained through the tooth-arrangement method is not perfect, a method of virtual adjustment of the occlusal surface is proposed. First, the intersection curve of the occlusive teeth is computed and the collision area is detected based on the mesh topology, and then, the measure of collision is estimated. An algorithm of local deformation based on laplacian deformation is realized to eliminate the over-interference between the occlusive teeth.(3) A denture base modeling method is proposed. B spline curve is used to fit the initial curve on the oral model. A method of trim curve extraction based on minimum distance projection is researched to obtain the inside surface of the denture base. The initial outside surface of the denture base is gotten by offsetting the inside surface. A deformation method driven by curve is proposed. Through curve-driven deformation, the outside surface of the denture base is obtained.Based on C++ and Open GL, the software modules of digital tooth-arrangement, virtual occlusion adjustment and denture base modeling is developed. Through actual design, the prospective results have been achieved.
